Do you believe in ghosts? Well I do. Even lived in a haunted house for 25 years. Scary stuff. There are some pretty cool movies and shows based on this type of genre. Really makes you think. True or false?

I've heard some weird samples of EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) that make me wonder.. I've also watched a bit of Ghost Adventurers that makes me wonder. I've often thought there's more to the universe than we can percieve, so who's to say what really happens after we die or if ghosts exist or not?

I believe. My grandfather was bedridden with cancer up until he died and one of the last things he could still do was answer the phone that was next to him on the night stand. Months after he passed away and on three different occassions the phone in the bedroom he passed away in was answered when no one was home. The girls down the street from my grandparents house would occassionally call my grandmother to see how she was doing, and one time the phone was answered and all the girls could hear was breathing. Concerend about her having fallen and couldn't speak they called 911 and my uncle. The police and my uncle arrive only to find the phone's handset placed next to the phone base on the nightstand. My grandmother was with me and we were out and about. Another time I had just arrived to my grandparents house and I tried calling my cousin to see what he was up to. My cousin wasn't home so I decided to leave and go look for a car stereo. As I was pulling out of the driveway my grandmother arrived and waved me down so I could help her unload the groceries and other bags from her car. She wanted the bag from the mall placed in the bedroom so I grabbed them and headed inside. I froze at the entrance to the bedroom because all I could see was the phone handpiece dangling down the front of the nightstand. I ran to the phone, hung it up, and ran out of the room as fast as I could. By the time I made it to the kitchen the phone rang and I answered. The caller was my mother and she asked, "What just happened!?". I said I didn't know and she said someone answered the phone and when she said hello it sounded like someone threw the phone. My parents are divorced and my grandfather never liked my mother after she divorced my father. And the really bizarre thing about that particular event is I used the phone in the kitchen no more than 20 minutes before all this took place. If the phone was already off the hook in the back bedroom when I arrived I would not have had a dial tone when I used the phone to call my cousin. Just creepy. I still wonder about that at times. It happened again at a later date, but I had already moved to Washington state by that time.

I do believe in ghosts, and I have seen one myself. The experience wasn't scary. In fact, I knew the ghost - it was the father of my partner at the time, who was being reassuring.

There are still many things about the Universe that we don't understand, and plenty of room for mystery.

Yes, though I DON'T believe it's anything like they portray in the movies or TV shows.

i think ghosts are just leftover energy from people.

my gf's house is 112 years old and has atleast one ghost. i had one following me around when i was in there during a storm when the power was out.

i was making sure windows were shut and felt like something was so close it was pressing against me the whole time.

turned around and there's an old lady in an old lady dress. turn back and she's gone.

i spoke outloud about her moving in and she'll have a lot of cats to play with, and i told her she's a good person.
after that, the feeling went away and hasnt came back. no weird shit happening anymore, either.

Interesting story. It seems a lot of ghosts only stay until something is resolved, then they move on.

    Hi all,

I'm new to the BBS in general, posting this from my X220 in the middle of class. Ghosts may be questionably real, but because of a set of unexplainable occurances that happened to me, I cannot help but lean more towards the validation of the opinion that ghosts, in fact, are the explaination to certain paranormal phenominon.

When my mother passed away about five years ago, there were a number of occurances that make me think some part of her was still there.

Firstly, when I first lost my mother, I was talking with a friend from the internet on Skype, and I had to get up to use the restroom. To preface what happened next, when my mother was still alive, it wasn't uncommon for us to argue verbally across the house - it's just who we were as people, naturally argumentative and prone to getting into it every once in a while. Well, when I got back from the bathroom, the call had been ended on the end of my friend. When I asked why she'd hung up, she told me that she could hear someone female speaking to me, trying to start some kind of argument, over my microphone. Both myself and my friend are uncertain as to if that voice was my mother, but my friend had said the voice was similar to what she'd heard when my mother and I still fought, so i'm fairly convinced it was her. My friend hung the line up because it freaked her out, evidently.

Secondly, last winter, I was on an odd kick of making use of Tarot cards, not to attempt to commune with spirits or tell the future, but simply asking them questions and seeing if the results offered insight into something in my life. I believe these cards to be less of spiritual items and more of psychological tools that help people explore things they can't consciously think about well by associating a question with broad, general indications of possible courses of action or outcomes to the question asked. Digression aside, my friend had taken me to see a professional reader due to my interest in improving my own personal reading, and upon returning home, I took a deck of Tarot cards out of its box and, without really paying any mind, began to shuffle them. It was then that I had noticed what had changed in the room - I keep my keys on a cloth lanyard, and never once in my life have I ever tied that lanyard in any kind of knot. My mind had drifted back to my mother during the time I had returned home, due to some of the 'professional reader's' probing into the issue (to my discomfort), and upon the point I was ready to go to bed, I turned my head and saw that my key lanyard had a massive knot tied in it.

A knot in a cloth lanyard is no indicator of paranormal activity, however, I was aware of the applications of tarot cards as they pertained to recieving answers to questions from spiritual entities. I'm unaware of the validity of what happened next - I was highly emotional at the time and could have been misinterperiting what was happening, but I spent the next hour with my cards, talking to the open air as if my mother could hear me. I would ask questions, deal the cards and treat the results as the answers to the questions I asked. Suprised at the coherency of the responses I got, I kept going until the conversation naturally drew to a close.

I suppose, in conclusion to the massive text blocks I just typed, my belief in the paranormal stems from instances of unexplainable activity that i've bore witness to.

Thanks for reading, everyone, and I hope we get to have more conversations together in the future.
