    So I'm 49 with 3 kids.
My best friend is 49 with 2 kids.
He lives about 3 hours north of me.

I had to drop my kid off at a summer camp halfway to his house, and decided to go up there and spend friday and saturday with his family.

Day 1: Played Portal on Xbox 360 with his daughters. Never played it before. I sucked at it. They made fun of me.

Then we played a board game version of Oregon Trial (available at target) and it was a lot of fun... Especially the fact that some of the cards actually had "press spacebar" on them. Just like the original computer game.
I died first, of snake bite.

Then we played "The Game of Life" - yes, the original. I took 3rd.

Day 2: His wife works for the Sheriff's department of the town, and gets free access to the firing range. We reserved the whole range for the day. The five of us fired myriad weapons... 9mm, .40, .22 rifles and .380s

Afterwards, we played Star Wars Monopoly, and despite owning The Death Star I lost.

So basically, i didn't get on a computer for 48 hours, and shot guns and played board games... And you know what?

It was probably the most fun I've had in years.

    Thanks,
    Zombie Mambo

I saw this a while ago and thought it was pretty good: https://i.kyn-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/599/855/846.jpg
Basically: With graphics in the style of Oregon Trail, showing 2 guys and one says "Terry? That's a girl's name." And in the next panel, that guy's lying on the ground with a flower next to a wagon and it says "You have died of dissing Terry."

    So I'm 49 with 3 kids.
My best friend is 49 with 2 kids.

    I'm 41 with 0 kids. but I have 15 pets.

Day 1: Played Portal on Xbox 360 with his daughters. Never played it before. I sucked at it. They made fun of me.

Portal is an amazing game, but it does take some getting used to.

Then we played a board game version of Oregon Trial (available at target) and it was a lot of fun... Especially the fact that some of the cards actually had "press spacebar" on them. Just like the original computer game. I died first, of snake bite.

You didn't even have the common goddamn courtesy to die of Dysentery? what the hell?

That said, I think I have to pick that game up.

Day 2: His wife works for the Sheriff's department of the town, and gets free access to the firing range. We reserved the whole range for the day. The five of us fired myriad weapons... 9mm, .40, .22 rifles and .380s

Time spent at the gun range is never wasted, and always the highlight of any day.

Afterwards, we played Star Wars Monopoly, and despite owning The Death Star I lost.

At one point in life I tried to collect all the different versions of Monopoly that existed. That stopped when they started making a version for every pop culture thing in existence. I would have to purchase a separate house just to store all of them, and 99% would never get played. It's too much.

So basically, i didn't get on a computer for 48 hours, and shot guns and played board games... And you know what?

It was probably the most fun I've had in years.

I work with computers, I'm attached to my phone just about 24/7, but sometimes you just have to unplug. Good on you.

Portal is an amazing game, but it does take some getting used to.

I liked Portal, and Portal 2. It's an interesting puzzle game, but also the narrator(s) are great too.

    GladOS.

What a b*tch. I can't wait until my son figures out how to kill her.

Games like that are much better than watching your kid waste time on things like call of duty, and fortnight. I don't have issue with my 6 yr old playing Minecraft, but it was time for him to try something else. He loves portal and wants me to get portal 2 so we can coop.

Not just GladOS, but other characters such as Cave Johnson (Portal 2).

Portal 2's single player is a lot longer than Portal, but lots of fun. I've only played its co-op a little bit.

The way you can put one player in a portal-portal deal to build up momentum, then have the other player open one up to catapult the first player across a long distance was pretty cool. I think that will keep my middle son interested and blow my 6yo's mind.
