• Galileo Gen2 Power Adapter

From Dumas Walker@VERT/CAPCITY2 to All on Thursday, January 10, 2019 07:28:18
I recently obtained a new Galileo Gen 2. It did not come with a power
adapter. The sparse docs in the box say that Intel recommends a 12 VDC, 1.25 A, LPS adapter.

The only ones I can seem to find that also have the barrel connector are 1.5
    A. I am not an electrical engineer, but I am thinking the 12 volts is the important (input) part, and that the 1.5 A is the max that can be drawn from the wart. This seems to be supported (sort of) by a recommended wart I found on Mauser (sp?) that is a 1.5 A. I say sort of because they recommend two
and one is not a barrel connector and therefor I know is wrong. :)

Any words of advice from those more electrical than I would be great.
    Thanks!

1.5A should be fine. in real basic terms, a power supply pushes voltage (V), but the device draws current (A).

Basically it's not going to burn out the device. This is why you can find all sorts of phone chargers that are rated "2.1A" and "1.5A" etc, and they work with all phones and tablets.

I remember when I could go down the street and get these at Radio Shack.

    Man, I miss Radio Shack.

Really I miss a local shop called "Appleton Electronics" that had bins full of electrical components, resistors, capacitors, ICs, diodes, etc. I can get this stuff online, sure, but there was nothing like going into the store and chatting with fellow nerds about what random radio/device/etc. they were fixing or building that week.

I liked Radio Shack to a point. I thought they were a cool store. But the last time I was in a Radio Shack, their prices seemed a bit high and they wouldn't price-match (at least, not with Amazon).

There was a similar electronics store in my area called Norvac Electronics. They had bins of components, similar to what you describe. And also bins of things like rechargeable batteries and such.

They are good for that kind of stuff sometimes. :) I think I actually
have one somewhere but have not seen it lately. It could also be that it
burnt out at some point and that is why I have not seen it lately. :D It
has been quite a while since I used it.
