So is FidoNet pretty much dead? I'm scanning through some of the echos, and many areas have not received a post in quite some time.

There are a *lot* of dead echoes in Fidonet; some people have their reasons for keeping an echo with no traffic on the backbone.

If you removed any echo that hadn't had significant traffic in a year, consolidated several echoes into one where it made sense, and highlighted the echoes that do get traffic, you'd have the equivalent to a booming othernet.

The trick is to look at the STATS echo and see which echoes have ongoing traffic, and ignore the rest.

Yeah I was curious about this too. I've pretty much given up on Fidonet. I've tried connecting my BBS to the network by contacting the coordinator several times, with the first request going out six weeks ago. Still nothing.

    I'm in Denver, Colorado.

Terry Barlow is NC of net 128, Pikes Peak Net in Colorado Springs. He is also the RC of region 15 so I'm sure he can get you sorted with a node number.

He is here in DOVE-Net too at times so possibly you can contact him that way.

The old fidonet standard is to netmail him directly to request a node but if you can get in touch with him somehow via email or netmail (DOVE-Net or FTN) and request a node I'm sure he'll be happy to do that for you.

Whatever problems you may have there is always help for you in the Synchronet bases in DOVE-Net.

    Terry's node / BBS is at cscnet1.net.

I know, I tried contacting Marc Lewis, @ 1:396/45.0, but he refuses to answer me when I write him from Timewarp of the future @ 1:340/400, I unfortuantely can't connect to his site, because he changed my password, when I was down for a while, and some chinese BBS connected to his system faking my node number and using my password apparently. I tried to get him to tell me my password, and he listed my node as being up, but never told me my password, nor reset it back to what it was.
