According to the DNS registration, End Of The Line BBS started a year ago today. A big thanks for all those who have helped me along the way, especially DigitalMan, for obviously reasons, Deuce for his contributions, echicken for that great nodelist viewer I rave about and other stuff :) and Nightfox (not sure if he reads these forums) for his DD additions. It's been a journey and a learning curve, and I've still more to learn...looking forwa to being at the end of the line for another year, at least :)
I thought about running my own BBS a couple of times, but I don't have the time nor the hardware and money to do it.

Nope. US$40-US$50 can be used toward feeding my familg of four for a few days if we go to Aldi or Lidl.
Congratulations for a year of running your BBS! I have seen a BBS go up for a few weeks and then go down afterwards. A full year is a milestone, IMO.

Jag, just get a $35 Raspberry PI and dload the image I made.
the Image can be dloaded from my webpage outwestbbs.com It has both
Mystic and Synchronet pre installed and you can run either package or
both at the same time on a PI.
I even made text instructions and placed them on the desktop:) ftp://outwestbbs.com/raspberry.pi.re/RASPBERR/00index.html

$40 USD doesn't go far here in Ontario. Since the liberal's took over
food costs have doubled and my pretty PM is spending the entire country
into the poor house. Sure am glad he's pretty and has great socks though.

Not even in Aldi, that do have some good quality products at remarkably chea prices.
... If all the nations in the world are in debt, where did all the money go?
If you are careful, it's quite possible to do it; at least in the United States. I can get get 5 days worth of lunch for between US$10-US20, but that's having the same thing all five days.

I am not sure about other countries, though.

That's a really good question...

I am the same way: it's lunch, who cares? Eating is a chore to me at times, I hardly get any pleasure out of it.
However, I will admit: I wish I can get something from one of the resturants near where I work, but it costs at least US$11 to get a full meal! And that's just going to Subway down the street!

I've heard of ways to get by very cheap, maybe on less money than that, but it involves buying things to eat like hot dogs, peanut butter & jelly sandwiches, etc., which are probably not good for you if you eat them all the time.

Don't you ever feel hungry though? Eating is supposed to be satisfying, since it takes care of your hunger and replenishes your energy.

I often don't get the full meal at SubWay. Usually a sandwich is enough to satisfy me there, and I think even their foot long subs cost up to around $6 $7 these days (around here, at least).
I just get tuna salad packets, chips or rice cakes, granola bars or fruit bars, and oatmeal for breakfast. It is getting old and I would like to switch it up at times.
pb&j is lasting, though.

I do like peanut butter & jelly sandwiches. But now I found that I need to be really careful about my intake of sugar & carbs, and I imagine a PB&J sandwich is loaded with both.
I have the Raspberry Pi (along with a VESA mount case, 64GB SD card, and a power supply) on my Amazon list, "Save for Later". My plan was to make a custom "AIO" computer to run QEMU and FreeDOS.I thought about running my own BBS a couple of times, but I don'tJag, just get a $35 Raspberry PI and dload the image I made.
have time nor the hardware and money to do it.
On Wednesy, after I got back home from Pigeon Forge, TN, I spent time getting the Lenovo laptop where the case was broken, and got out my old 4:3 LCD monitor and got FreeDOS installed on it. It'll do for now, if I am ever able to save up for the Raspberry Pi.

People have done that food stamp challenge - eat for a week (or more) on what the SNAP program provides. There's an interesting guy on YouTube
called Brother Green Eats who ate for a week for $21.00. You need to be careful, and you need to COOK.
Eggs for protein. Dried beans. Dried split peas. Vegetables. Minimal meat, like we should be doing anyway. Skip the chicken breasts, go for thighs. Potatoes. Carrots. Make a lunch and bring it with you.
