I just saw an article on that. Supposedly i will be an iMac Pro with an 18-core Xeon processor. The Xeon is typically used in servers, but I've n really seen the iMac as a server machine. The iMac has always seemed more one of Apple's consumer/home-use PC offerings. I think the Mac Pro was th only home/consumer Mac that Apple had used a Xeon in before.
I think the iMac Pro is their weird stopgap computer for high-end workstation (Final Cut Pro, 3D Rendering) use until they can get a new Mac Pro released.
