Those are actually amazing. Do you think it would be possible to incorporate that kind of stuff into a MUD? Ex: "You see an orc" *ANSI image of green orc with club* "Orc attacks you for 4 damage" *ANSI battle music*
Oh, I'm sure it is. The main limitation is time.
One thing I've learned putting together these demos of different techniques is just how labor-intensive they can be. That's one of the reasons I've never managed to cook up a complete game built around any of them.
My newest demo is a short Star Trek / holiday ANSImation with a cool transporter effect I cooked up. The code looks at the characters in the layer behind a sprite to figure out how to make it look like it's fading in. It is included in yesterday's brand-spanking-new Blocktronics release.
But anyone who's interested can also watch the real thing on my BBS. It's dynamic, so the effect is rendered in realtime.
