So, it's not just you or your BBS. :)

you should talk to the guy running bbslink
I don't plan closing anytime soon, i'm happy we are still there and providin something. I really believe that the day the internet dies that BBSes in som form will still be around.
providing something. I really believe that the day the internet dies that BBSes in some form will still be around.
I suspect the same thing as well: if the Internet stopped somehow, BBSes will come back again, and there will be a few people who'll have one up and running already.
However, I'm not sure how likeely it'll happen, though. Considering that there are more mobile phones, and the Internet is becoming more and more intertwined in our lives (same way as how electricty happened).
I hear this one a lot. The fun fact of the matter is that if the internet shits out one day, it's going to take the telephone networks down with it. Depending on the nature of the 'death of the internet' reversion to dial-up BBSs may be an option, but I wouldn't count on it. I think we'd be looking more toward mesh network solutions and stuff of that nature, quite possibly allowing people to do a lot of the same stuff they did online previously.
If the bandwidth was sufficiently poor, the BBS might have its day, but
this really isn't the interface that most people want.

Wasn't that the point of asking here first before goimg to BBSlink: making it's not that was something the OP did, and that there is a true problem b asking for assistance that'll take some time away?

Yes, I do also run my local games, but networked game are fun for the added numbers of player.
have the traffic i used to. But we have to be honest except for a few nostalgics that will want to experience theirs childhood memories our number of regulars users is not really growing :-D

I'm seeing the same issue here tonight. Assuming the server is down. I'll email him to check in.
i dont even think the nostalgia people are frequent users. in my experience they are the first to NOT stick around. i get a few new users or more a day, every day but i dont think i have any regular users.
if i was the guy running bbslink, i would want to be contacted instead
of someone taking a backwards approach by asking people on a public msg network.

Maybe I just wanted to create so noise on the wire :-D I felt General was ki of slow and look! it worked! there is stuff to read :-)
Don't slam Jag, i'm the one who started it :-)
Myself? I'm here more for the forums than the game, but I do appreciate playing Backgammon on bbslink and some tradewars.

do they have scrabble on bbslink?
that's the best kind of game to have on a game server.

I've been trying to get any of the door servers to run it without much
luck. That's the hold up on me scrapping the DOS system, I play that door
daily with my one regular user and enjoy it.

i think a lot of these guys are clueless about what works with
doorgames. the lord games are boring and all defaults with no igms.
the games arent tweaked.
scrabble is pretty much the most user interactive doorgame you can
find. and it's true to the real scrabble.
i'm bad at scrabble and i still love playing it.

I'm also bad, but I'm getting better. I know you don't telnet out but
if you ever did I'll start a new 2-3 player game here for all of us.
Re: Re: bbslink.netOn slashdot.org, I`ve read some news that some mobile carrier has started to do some tiers on their services. For example, video sites like netflix is 5 euro, messaging is another 5 euro and so on. Its starting and the USA has some carriers doing on their mobile service as well. I don`t like it but bbs is here so... good replacment I guess at least for the knowledged ones

same here about this. I`m here for the forums and the usual chitchat, not the games. I got over 1k games on my steam account so I dont need some in some bbs hehei dont even think the nostalgia people are frequent users. in my experien they are the first to NOT stick around. i get a few new users or more a day, every day but i dont think i have any regular users.
I agree with you, nostalgia people want a quick fix. Like you I'll get visit saying "I felt nostalgic of tradewars", play like 30min and never come back.
I get maybe 3 for 4 new users a week. I feel fortunate to have like maybe 4 5 regulars users.
