on the nightowl CDs but thats as far as it goes.. I do however offer ROMS (Backups for your video games).

"Backups".. ;) I always wondered about the use of ROMs as backups.
If you happen to lose or damage a game cartridge, how are you going to write the ROM onto a different cartridge? I've never known anyone who
has the equipment to do that. I don't even know where you would be
able to buy game console cartridges with a blank chip in it to write
    to.

For emulators I'm sure. :-) It's fuzzy... if you own it, you can make
a backup. If you don't own it, you're not supposed to run it on an
    emulator either.

I know it's the law, but at the same time something that is FAR out
of print? I have no problem with it.

Well, if you get hit by ransomware, etc., and you don't have a
backup safely stored where the ransomware can't get to it, "you're
    hosed".

Ransomware doesn't typically target console video games though.. I've never actually heard of a virus on a game console? And I wonder how ransomware would encrypt data on a ROM game cartridge?

you're correct ROM = Read Only Memory, therefore it cannot be written
    to.

But the ROM backup file... That's another story!

    ... I can't remember the last time I had a memory problem.

I believe that probably applies to things like DVDs and blu-ray discs too. The interesting thing is that they usually add copy protection to those kinds of discs to prevent people from making copies.. If you're legally allowed to make a backup of things you own, does that mean you're legally allowed to use software tools that crack the copy protection? I've seen legal disclaimers shown on video discs that (I believe) say it's illegal to even make a copy of the disc..

I know it's the law, but at the same time something that is FAR out

I agree, I think things that are way out of print shouldn't have restrictions on being copied.

    Yeah - good question!

That's already the case - kinda - copyright falls off after, I think,
75 years after the death of the author.
