1: Yes, always
2: Yes, usually
3: Yes, rarely
4: No, never
5: I don't use ride-sharing services and shouldn't have answered this poll
I would use ride sharing services, and tip IF the companies that run these services did'nt flat RIP their drivers off, and find every way possible in the book to circumvent local and state laws.
for nights I need a ride, I take a reputable taxi, and tip the driver if they have earned it. Taxi companies (and contracters) to a point became to comfortable and forgot that, yes there is someone out there who can take away your living.. Too many drivers are unprofessional, unhygenienic, and just plain rude. take in mind that most of these drivers are worked 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, and having to deal with some of the worste people that earth has to offer (both on the road and in your car) can desensitise you and make you not give a shit anymore. but back when I drove, I as very professional, and pretty much had the same clients all the time because they would request me through dispatch. I made damn good tips for my service too.
So yeah.. if your driver is a professional driver, doing there job well and cares for your safety. TIP THEM.. because the ride share service sure is'nt paying them enough. Especially for them to absoulutlely ravage their own vehicle for your gain.
But, these companies are into getting around the laws that are in place to protect you. a year before Uber or Lyft (mainly uber) comes into an area, represntatives are sent out to the local authoritites to try to bribe them into doing away with rules requiring drivers to get background checks, etc. Then go go to state level also trying to do the same.
Georgia replyed in kind by making it law that ANYONE transporting another for money must have a FEDERAL fingerpring background check and most have an endorsment on their drivers license before getting their local permits. That way at least, if uber bribes a local authority to do away with the permitting system, at least there are state safegaurds in place to keep sexual predators and drug runners out of these forms of public transportation (They all now drive school buses)
The state left a loophole in that law though, that you do not have to get the state endorsment on your license if your LOCAL Taxi Company will vouch for your background check.
They did this to protect taxi companies. the taxi companies must have gave the legislators more money than uber and lyft did.. or maybe they are actually just trying to do the right thing.
I would run for a company like uber or lyft if they did'nt do their drivers so dirty.
