Can ANSI images be sent through DOVEnet? How can one go about posting an ANSI in one of the message forums with the default editors that come with Synchronet?
Can ANSI images be sent through DOVEnet? How can one go about postingI think so, but most people just strip those codes as some can't display ANSI characters properly. I don't even bother :)

Before posting, hit Ctrl-Z to enter raw input mode, then when posting use the "ASCII upload" feature of your terminal program to send the text (or ANSI) file.

Awesome, thanks for that!! =)
They might not show up well for people using other bbs softwares, though.
so be careful.

Hmm... good point.

Other folks on less ansi capable bbs software could download a qwk
packet and multimail will display that ansi just fine, so were all
covered one way or another.

Go ahead. My software supports ansi so I'm good.. :)

I guess I can understand, but the 'BBS scene' was also about ANSI art. At least it was in my neck of the woods.
Any chance that DoveNet would consider hosting an ANSI message base that people can opt-in and out of?

Yes, but not all software does. :)

Hmm, I don't think I've ever been able to get it to display ANSI
messages here. :(

Mystic displays ansi just fine. I dunno why it would piss anybody off.
Ttyl :-),
Historically, many of the ads in the "Advertisements" area contained extended-ASCII ("graphics") characters and color sequences, commonly referred to as "ANSI", though for optimal compatibility (e.g. with non-ANSI terminals), Ctrl-A codes could be used instead of raw ANSI escape sequences.

That would be correct. I love history lessons. =)
So what would be the process of pre-existing ANSI graphics and convert them to use the Ctrl-A instead?
This works for non-animated ANSI files:

I've fiddled with ANSI signatures but some folks get there shorts in a twist. :-)

The network that had the ANSI messages was GT Power. It's BBS network
did not store the messages in a database. Each individual message was a text file that had a header in the first few lines of each message. the rest was pretty much an ANSI file.
Most ansi messages would break the message bases that store messages in
a database... or the software would munge the ANSI message as it stored them.
I'm not so certain that Synchro is set up to do ansi in message bases.
I know that the official WWIV and the network that I hosted on my WWIV system
had ANSI message bases and handled it well.
WWIV was the exception not the rule. MOST bbs softwares out there would break the ansi with bad CRLF problem.
I had always assumed that all BBS platforms could display ANSI. Especially W>since it was so huge back in the day.
WWIVnet had the famous "ANSI Art Gallery" sub which would get loads of posts W>daily of all ANSI artwork.
