Agreed. I hear people do that in the bathroom (along with harking a loogie and spitting it into the sink). I suppose it's better to do that in the bathroom, but it's still disgusting. I'm not sure why people have to do that anyway.. I've never had to do that, and I'd rather not have to hear that from others.

Unfortunately a bit of this is anatomical, and a bit of this is genetic, as well. For instance, I recently had a surgery to correct a septum deviation and other improperly proportioned internal anatomy within my sinuses in order to reduce the amount of time that I have to spend gasping for respiration, and choking on my own drainage. Part of my reasons were not just anatomical, they also flare up terribly during the season where I am innundated with the various pollens that I'm allergic to, as well.
As far as people going so far as to have to hawk loogies... Well I think that's usually a product of the drainage issue that I had, but there's not much of an option for what to do with that kind of stuff other than swallow it. I guess that's the more polite thing to do, but I can also understand people not wanting those oysters slithering down their throats, even if they are a product of their own bodies...
Sorry, it's foul, but I've suffered from a bit of this most of my whole life; a lot of those poor people can't do much about it, though the loogie bit is pretty oustanding in a social setting.
