Glad to be slowly working back into the BBS scene a bit. Although I've
never used one before I'm thinking of trying out a QWK packet program to
see if it helps me keep more active.
How goes your year so far?

I love QWK, though Blue Wave was even better. Reading this from a QWK packet in Multimail. :)

Are you actually just a clone of me? Everything you are saying are thoughts I've had.
BlueWave was awesome! I have so many memories burned into my head of
using that. I remember responding to message nets (including NirvanaNet
-- nudge nudge Poindexter) with it. And it felt kind of cool sending interbbs messages to a user on another BBS while you were offline in
the program. Then connected and uploaded your packet, and knowing it
would make its way across.
Hahaha, spooky. I'd only accept that theory if our interests outside of IT coincide (I am rather unusual for a tech geek ;) ). When I'm not being a geek, I'm out training or competing, either in athletics or the unique fire competitions we have here (that would take a lot of explaining LOL).
Yeah, I loved Bluewave until Y2K kinda killed it. :( Wish the BBS authors would add support for it, because it was an excellent offline format. You can still download the specs for it today. Standardised netmail format and longer subject lines were just two of its advantages. :)

Thanks for the NirvanaNet shoutout!
I was a hardcore BlueWave user back in the day; my claim to fame was having an email of mine from the BlueWave Fido echo included in the sample welcome packet that comes with the Bluewave Reader. :)

Damn. Well while I'm most certainly not very athetic (though I wish I
were and find myself making excuses due to how busy I am with
everything else), I definitely have a lot of interests outside of IT
(and tech in general). Curious about the fire competitions though...

That is the very same reason I stopped using it. The only true casualty
of Y2K :P

QWKE (supported by Synchronet) has those same advantages. I'm not sure
how many offline readers support it though. It is backwards compatible with QWK, so it has that advantage over Bluewave.
It's not too late to start (though might want to start slowly :) ). For me, it's what keeps me sane. I tell people that I take large doses of iron (in the gym) and speed (on the track) for my sanity. :D Yeah, I have multitides of interests too.
Well, here's me in action on the fire track from a few years ago - I'm a bit faster these days. :)

And I also have some more conventional athletics from just under 2 months ago - all except one of these vids - should be obvious which one!. :)

I think having some friends that are into it would drive me forward a
lot more. Some comradery always helped me get my butt into the gym or similar in the past.

Holy crap, that's really cool. Looks like fun and is obviously good for you. Are you a firefighter? Or is this just an event that supports fire departments?

Which one is you?
Thanks for sharing the videos...

Multimail has some level of support. Not sure how far it goes.
I looked at the Multimail support for QWKE (examing the source) and it's lacking. I started creating some patches to complete the QWKE support, but stopped when I didn't get any response from the current author/maintainer on their mailing list. Someone more recently asked me about that effort, maybe it was last year, anyway, I'll probably look again at multimail again in the future.
