Alright so I was at work today on my lunch break and on the TV I saw somthing that I found quite amusing. You thought selfie sitcks were bad? Well how about a Toilet that you don't even need to touch. You just wave your have over it and it takes care of it for you. As much as I enjoy technology, I think that it is in the process of making us very lazy. ;)

What exactly does it take care of for you? Flushing? Automatic flushing toilets have already been around for a long time, those are nothing new..

It is basically a no touch flush. I'm not sure what the advantage is to waving your hand over the tank, as opposed to using a lever. Perhaps they are marketing to people who have boatloads of $$ and nothing better to do with it.

You seemed surprised to hear about that, even though no-touch flush toilets have been around for quite a while. I've mainly seen them in public places though such as workplaces, airports, etc., which probably have enough money to afford them. I've never seen one at someone's house. I think the main concern is regarding cleanliness - If you don't have to touch the toilet to flush it, then the risk of getting sick due to germs from other people
using the toilet, which is a concern in public restrooms. Many public restrooms also have no-touch water faucets, soap dispensers, and paper
towel dispensers (which have also existed for many years).

I miss my old BBS friend Sam Uzi. He just posted on Facebook that the Dyson air hand dryers could potentially be used to scan fingerprints and scan for volatiles, like explosives.
He'd have some choice opinions here.

What exactly is the benefit of a no-touch flush unless you can perform a no-touch crap?
One has a no-touch toilet, no-touch faucet, and air hand dryers, which can read fingerprints and be used to sample DNA and test for volatiles like explosives[1].

Perhaps he has used public bathrooms that truck drivers also use? I'm not sure why that would be surprising. It's not that hard to observe whether someone washed their hands after doing their business.

About 10 years ago, I worked with a really filthy, dirty man named Leroy.

One day, he came out of the bathroom with SHIT on his hand. I was like
uh, Leroy, uhm..." Then he ran to the bathroom and washed.
I think some people don't wash things until they are visually dirty.

There was an interesting podcast about TI calculators and how they got into a virtual monopoly based on their use in school. Without those forces, the calculators would probably sell for a fraction of the
price, or be replaced by a smartphone app.

I've drolled over Graphic calculators but haven't want to buy one.
But in 2012 at a Salvation Army Thrift Store I found a Book and CD to run

In the late 70's, the Macy's store at Stanford mall in Palo Alto, Ca had an HP Calculator section. I often wondered if other stores had this or if this was a special thing, being a mile from the garage where HP started.

I have a box full of TI calcs. A few years ago I bought a bunch on eBay
so that I could show my son what they were all about. I had too many memories of programming BASIC on them in class when I was bored back in the early 90s. I had no idea that they could be hacked to allow ASM development until recently. Still would like to learn about that, but
not really enough time right now.
TI-82, TI-85, etc.
Good little computing calculators. You could even transfer
programs/game between them with a cable.
Howdy! Knight,
I read about the TI-82 Graphic Calculator being able to use TI-82 LINK
to transfer a program or just the variables to another TI-82.
There also was a accessory that let you transfer what was on the TI-82
to a computer or printer.
I wrote a BASIC program with 3 Variables where he could enter
the Mortage Amount, Number of Years and the Interest Rate as he talked
with Realtors.
I used a formula I found in the TI-30 Math On Keys book to make the BASIC program for him.
He said having the program helped them out with purchasing their new home.
