Wow... I just found this little jewel. Vic Mingnogna, the new Captain
Kirk, doesn't overact quite as well as William Shatner, but it's
definitely worth watching. It is Star Trek!

I had watched Hidden Frontiers and the spin offs.. they were ok... but a
bit to gay for me to truly like. (keep sex in the bedroom, and gay sex
in the bedroom closet, where it belongs).

I got re-interested when I saw that CBS was suing a group for
infringement so I looked around for more movies/episodes. Me thinks
that CBS didn't mind while the work was hammy but now that it's gaining
tech and good script they are seeing green. I don't like money, never
have.. other than as a tool that is, and I'm glad to see that Trek lives
on in fan-dome.

That's interesting.. I had seen another group, Star Trek New Voyages, that
are also producing their own Star Trek Original Series episodes: http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/

seeing, though, is a movie or TV show based on the time between the original series and next generation - For instance, something based on the Enterprise
B or Enterprise C voyages. Both of those ships were only really shown once
in canon Star Trek.

I didn't know about Star Trek Continues.. Although personally I'm more of a fan of the Next Generation era of Star Trek. One thing I wouldn't mind seeing, though, is a movie or TV show based on the time between the original series and next generation - For instance, something based on the Enterprise B or Enterprise C voyages. Both of those ships were only really shown once in canon Star Trek.

That would be great. There's a lot of area to fill in, the ships would look good, and they could build into the TNG universe. There's been fan demand for them, like a show with Sulu in command of the Excelsior. How about rebuilding Kronos after the events of ST:VI?

One thing I didn't like about Enterprise was that I felt the ships should be much more primitive. The NX-01 looked like, if you painted it white, could have been one of the new ships from First Contact.

I think there's a lot of possibilities for dovetailing into canon. The recent teaser trailer for "Axanar" looks good and ties into canon well, both in building on characters from ST:TOS (Captain Garth) and the medal of Axanar that's now a medal of valor.

True, but I always attributed that to the fact that filming techniques have evolved and changed since the original series of Star Trek was filmed, and they probably also had a bigger budget for Enterprise. I agree the ships could have probably looked more primitive to fit into Star Trek canon, but it was probably also a more realistic depiction of what (at least our) ships might look like in that era. Overall I think they still did a fair job of fitting it into Star Trek canon, with the lack of future technologies such as holodecks and replicators, and the fact that many of the crew preferred to take a shuttlecraft
rather than use the transporter to beam down to a planet's surface, etc.

I think Enterprise had some good moments with the characters as well. One of my
favorite scenes when Malcolm Reed was working on the security system and said he
thought of naming his alert system the "Reed Alert".

it's hard for me to watch.

Well, if they didn't copy the original crew they wouldn't have been able
to use the title 'Star Trek Continues'.

This afternoon I also watched the last episode of Star Trek Phase Two..
I didn't now it was out... Mind Shifter it was called. I tried to get
my younger brother to watch some of these episodes but he couldn't get
past the actors not being the originals... yeah... he's what you'd call
a low-brow mf'er... or at least that's what I call him! ;)

After looking around.. I found that there are many Star Trek Fan films now-a-days.. Many of them are rather cheesy but I admire the efforts
and the art work of all involved.

I've got find something to occupy my time.. hunting season has ended,
winter finally arrived, and I'll be stuck in the house for the next few months. I'm bored with software tinkering so I guess I'll try watching
cheesy videos for a little while.. But it won't be too long before the
fish start biting and the garden can be tilled...

I just finished watching all of Star Trek Continues offerings. I really
liked watching the new Engine Room come together in the Construction
videos. Star Trek Continues is a real class act! I hope that it can
continue for years to come. STC is, in some ways, better than ST TOS.

Linux and Open Source is making many things possible now. But, I would imagine that most of the special effects video is being done on Mac.

I thought Voyager was entertaining enough, but sometimes I thought some of the dialogue/writing was a little corny. But overall I liked it, and I thought some
of the Borg story lines were interesting too.

My favorite Star Trek was TNG, and I always liked watching TNG reruns - But I thought DS9 was fairly good too. It's harder to watch random DS9 reruns though,
since DS9 episodes mostly all tie into the story more and generally aren't stand-alone episodes as in most other Star Trek series.

I bought the TNG blu-ray remasters, and I think they did a really good job of remastering it for blu-ray. I'd like to see Voyager and DS9 on blu-ray, but I'm
not sure there's a good chance of that happening, at least not soon. I suppose I should buy TOS and Enterprise on blu-ray - I might as well have those around, and I've heard that buying those is the best way to show that there's interest in having the other series on blu-ray too.

Why Mac in particular? Is there some video editing software for Mac that isn't available for other platforms?
James Cameron's 'Titanic' comes to mind - When that came out in 1997, I remember
hearing that most (if not all) the CGI was rendered on Linux workstations.

have you seen New Voyages or Starship Farragu? There's also someone new called Star trek Anthologies working on 2 new Trek shows, including Assignment: Earth. And I assume you have seen Prelude to Axanar.

IMO, at this point CBS and Paramount can't keep up. I hope Axanar wins the right to continue. CBS should at least allow these fan productions to get licenses and provide guidelines. But I digress. Continues et al are great Trek. Welcome aboard! \\//,

The guidance seemed to be "don't make money and have fun". I guess Axanar's fund-raising campaign raised some eyebrows.

I'm intrigued by the story - it leverages canon nicely without rehashing anything, fills in a back-story dying to be filled in and has some great talent in front of the camera.

Maybe the guidance should be "don't make money, don't upstage Paramount and have fun"?
