Dead is relative, it's mostly sysops posting on their own boards.. there's a handful of boards that see some decent amount of door users, but not much message posting beyond what dovenet sees.

Well BBS's aren't as popular as they were back in to 80's and 90's but with telnet and FTP I could see them making a huge rebound.
For allot of us who ran a BBS back in the day this brings back fond memories as is still a great fun hobbie.
Now days we have many options to run a BBS via several Software titles and different ways to run them, Some people run a BBS on a box in their home, others like me run a BBS using a Virtual Private Server (VPS) Some even use a little tiny computer called a Raspberry PI or a Banana PI.

    Still alive :)

I remember using BBS's in dial-up mode... quite a *long* time ago I dialed into this 10-line system that had internode chatting and we got together once a month at the Edmonton Library just to hang around and discuss what to bring to the board. I don't remember for the life of me what the board name was called but I think the SysOp's name was Dusty Wells..

The PI is arm based, it's slower than an older Pentium 3, though uses much

i dont see what the draw of running a bbs on this device is.
i just want shit to be up quick and stay up.

i might get this 120-140usd all in one tablet/windows10 computer thingy on amazon for running my bbses. i tried running them on netbooks and their wifi cards are both failing and the batteries are shit even though i had them plugged in all the time.

Well for the price, the size and the fun of getting it up and running.
for its size it packs a punch.
Plus I have a 600 gig powered external hard drive that I plan to use.
