I kid you not, I found out today that there is such a thing as a selfie stick. It's a cradle for your phone that is attached to a telescoping handle.

    I hate the world...
    Really? A selfie stick?

I am starting a new country, and the first law is going to be that selfies are punishable by firing squad.

I am kidding of course, but come on! There are so many more important things in this world than spending 20 bucks so you can craft the best selfie...

I've been seeing people post selfies online with selfie sticks for a while now. I don't really see much point in them, but for me, I suppose a selfie stick MIGHT be useful if I were traveling somewhere and I wanted a picture of myself with the scenery or a landmark in the background and there was nobody near me I could trust to take a picture of me without stealing my camera/phone..

Plenty of those around here. One problem is some people attach them to bikes and drive around, occasionally hitting people with them.

they can also fly into an engine of a plane and take it down. someone could just park two of them in there and fire them up when the plane achieves a decent altitude.

Because no air moves through an engine while achieving a decent altitude, and drones are so likely to stay put until then.

This problem has been solved other ways for such things as cars and airplanes already. No need to do an outright ban, simply licence and register them.

A clear definition of what airspace is available and who regulates it is needed. The FAA is trying to do this as are various state and local governments. Some local governments have laws for remote controlled aircraft which predate the quadcopters that will need to be considered.

An outright ban is a silly knee-jerk reaction, but ignoring the problem and hoping it will just go away is silly as well. I'm not sure who I think should end up regulating airspace in an urban environment, but I lean toward local control more than federal.

There are already a number of laws against using UAVs while hunting, which I approve of, but banning them in the same areas because they can crash into stadiums is not the right solution to the problem.

you dont know if there's some place they can park a drone effectively

Ya I agree. One thing I think a lot of people are forgetting to. We already have a zillion laws. Who is going to enforce this drone law? I have a better idea... how about a "Don't be an asshole law." and everyone enforces it. Seriously the biggest problem I see isn't that we don't have enough laws, it's a society that has gotten used to seeing what they can get away with.

I do. Drone did not hit plane. Plane didn't fall out of the sky. Nothing happened. Thats not to say that the dude piloting the drone is not a prick and needs his ass beat. Think that is the major problem in this country. In the old days you would get your ass beat if you were in desperate need of it. Not now days. We protect the accident causing douchebags by creating laws that are supposed to prevent douchebaggary. None of these anti-dickhead laws has ever worked. Don't need cops, judges and jail time. what happened is someone could have caused an accident with a drone by flying it into airspace. there is no good reason for drones to be flying around airplanes.

i have a few friends that have been in prison and it's not as bad as you think. infact, country jail is bad. prison is a place people go to watch tv, sleep a lot and play basketball and work out. in some cases this is where people see and spend time with their family. they get used to prison and that's their way of life. they get released and they go right back to prison. if you keep your nose clean and stick with your own race, you probably dont have problems in prison.
