The original kicks ass. You will hate me for saying this though: That's the only stones song that I'm not sick of! The 2 classic rock radio stations in Albuquerque play NOTHING but ACDC and stones all day, every day. I hate ACDC, and I will say that the stones are better to get stuck in your head than all that acdc squalk.

What the world needs is to train crows to record albums - Wait - they are already doing that! (Not being racist! Talking about ACDC!)

I can't stand either band.

I remember the suspense around Brian Johnson taking over when Bon Scott passed away, and how well they did with Back in Black. I have 2 memories of that album that stand out:

1. "Hell's Bells" was the first song I'd listened to on a Sony Walkman. Ever. The first, original, blue one in 1982.

2. The Oakland Raiders play "Hell's Bells" when the team comes on the field. Hearing that song with 60,000 manic, cheering fans (some wearing bloody skulls and face paint) is quite an experience.

I don't think I'll get tired of the Beatles, but I don't think I could listen to any one band's music for too long at a time. Variety is the spice of life - It's good to mix things up a bit. If you have too much of anything, you'll probably eventually get sick of it.

I think The Beatles were a very significant band and contributed a lot to popular music and pop culture in general. But even with as many catchy songs as they made, I think they made quite a few songs that aren't so memorable either. As with many bands, it seems they probably made their share of "filler" songs to fulfill album contracts.

'albums' are one of those things I still enjoy, that sound like an anachronism. There are a few 'albums' that I like all the songs on well enough to play the whole thing, or put several of them on a play list, and let them run.

On occasion, when I rip content, I'll rip the individual songs, and also rip the whole disc as one file.

Back in the day, artists made albums to be made in one sitting. Great albums had a flow, a natural break at the flip side, and a reprise of some kind at the end. Albums were usually 45 minutes. With CDs running 80 minutes, they feel like an overstuffed shopping bag - songs that wouldn't have made the cut on
an LP probably get tossed onto a CD.

Same here! But just as with Paint it Black, there are a few heavy/trippy Beatles songs that I won't get bored of. "I want you" is a fantastic song.
You know, I have to stray away from the overplayed hits, and then that's
the only way the band can still appeal to me.

I was about to say... Even Metallica.. But no, every song by them is already wrecked by the radio and movies. There's one band that I can 100% do without!

And their jazz selection is ok, but they lack freestyle & live jazz. Admit it
- If you need music, torrent seeds are the only way to go! (Or Amazon if you got the cash.)

Rust in Peace, and Slayer for Divine Intervention. Especially Divine Intervention, I can listen to it every day and only change the CD because I don't want to be annoying to people around me.

Great album, it's a shame the resulting tour trashed Geoff Tate's voice. He never had the range after that tour.

It's been interesting watching the train wreck that is QR now -- accusations of mishandling funds, relatives being fired from back office positions, Geoff accused of fighting with the band, 2 separate Queensryches on tour, and now closure with the best FU of all -- Geoff Tate's "Queensryche Farewell tour".

The irony is that Geoff Tate gets the rights to do O:M in its entirety, but not the rest of their repetoire (if I'm not mistaken). His voice is now much more suited to their newer stuff, but the new QR singer is better at the old screamy QR and not as much with the new stuff.

Ditto. I miss Chris De Garmo - the two original guitarists (Michael Wilton)
had a great sound together, I never really dug the others.

It varies from day to day. Some evenings we'll put Dark Side of the Moon on. When I'm reading I occasionally listen to Time Out by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.

We have a small shelf unit of (mostly vintage) vinyl. Sometimes it is Bent Fabric, sometimes it is something by David Bowie or the Rolling Stones.

I don't think I have it on vinyl, but sometimes I like Oranges and Lemons by XTC, or just about anytime Sandanista! may get a full play.

At the moment I'm working through two Gang of Four albums.

Some albums are doubles or triples. That sometimes translates to full or multiple CDs.

I had to dig in my memories a bit, for when I listened to metal. When I was a freshman, I had a friend who was into metal quite a bit, and we listened
at high volume while driving to various places teens go.

But that was early '80s. Black Sabbath maybe? Scorpions? Def Leopard? Van Halen? Yngwie Malmsteen? I'm lauging an embarassed laugh while I type. When did things shift to prog rock? My brother knows the genre (oeuvre?) better than I.

During those formative years, my friend Matt's dad worked for the railroad. Matt's sister lived in Los Angeles. So Matt brought back a constant stream of bootlegs (cassetts for me) from there. The whole gamut from Suicidal Tendencies, to Onigo Boingo, to various and sundy other stuff. It was a musically diverse time for me.

Thanks for the pointers. I've added those two albums, and will give them a listen.
