I tried to run that game through Doorway and also cioxtrn, but I never got it to work.

it looks like it will run on doorway. if you link it from a file sharing site or dropbox, i can check it out.

oh, i ran it on my system in 2012. not sure why i took it down.

it works via doorway, but the game does not redraw the entire screen a lot, so there are some graphics glitches

That is certainly better than I was able to get. I get to where Doorway loads, and then there is never any screen draw at all on the remote user's side. I can see ZZT load on the BBS machine itself though, and any input from the remote user connected actually makes it to the game, but again, no screen draw at all.

Files for ZZT in case you were looking for them: ftp://bbs.kd3.us/main/GAMES/zzt.zip

I wonder what I am doing differently. Though... if its not doing a full redraw that well, then that could get tricky for some of the tougher parts of the game.

your problem may be your terminal program of choice. I see that you are
using mtelnet. Of the top 3 terminal programs of choice by telnet bbs users (mtelnet, syncterm, netrunner), mtelnet (for me) has the worst graphics capabilities. Additionally, displaying the status line also (for me) seem
sot muck things up with regards to ansi screen positional displays. I would
be curious to see how your experience would be if you tried the other terminals.

i prefer mtelnet. i havent ever had any issues with displaying ansi correctly, except when the bbs is trying to display an ansi that has a wider width than 80 cols. also with mtelnet you can disable the status line. again, i have had no issue with having a status line.

the issue is the game not redrawing the screen enough. it's fine when it's local but when it's sent via doorway, it's an issue.

can you provide some examples of ansis that display fine in other clients and not in mtelnet? i'd like to look at the actual ansi file to see what the issue is.

come check it out on my bbs, eob-bbs.com
it's in the dos games section.

if you are okay with how it displays and you want the batchfiles, let me know.

btw, gryphon this is what it looks like in syncterm
    still displays poorly.

its also the oldest telnet program that hasn't been updated in a very long time. tried reaching dink to report bugs, with no luck.

Looks pretty darn good. I see what you mean about the screen draws, but its tolerable for most parts of the game. Also, the version of "Town of ZZT" you have looks slightly different than the one I have. In mine, when I go immediately left at the opening screen (where you see the armory), I get to a screen called "The Three Lakes" which would be a nightmare with screen lag. Basically its a bunch of guns randomly shooting at you from the other side of the room. On your version, when I went left I saw something completely different.

If you don't mind giving me the batch files, I would certainly love to set the game up. I was just that big of a fan of the game when I was young. Thanks for the offer.
