Sadly I think I know where these mindless, script-writing creatures come f I'm IT student and every day I see more than 80% of my so called 'friends' bragging that something is old and useless because there is no GUI and you
to configure it and stuff. I duon't get it. How someone can call himself IT if he even won't install Ubuntu because he is to scared of finding solutio problems and of reading the god damn documentation? But fortunatelly emplo see the difference between good and a bad IT guy so they hardly ever emplo them to write anything. Instead they are put at the end of a phone line to scripted questions to us because most of the time they don't even understa what is going on
I'm sorry if I ended up offending anyone. Of course to every rule there is exeption and not all call-center workers are like that. But I am concerned
in next 20 years it might not be the case

I hear you, brother. I currently work at a place as lead (and only) developer. There are sysadmins with me, but I had to configure everything I wanted/needed myself (FreeBSD, Apache, PHP, etc) to create a new system for the company because, well, I'm the only one who knew how do anything
    besides point and click.

I'm 32, been in the field for years, I feel there are far more like you
have observed than those who know how to get down in deep and make things happen with just a keyboard to configure, to script, to code. So I guess we're a small bunch, but it's all good. Nerds rule the world!
