Totally forgot. I was going to mention my time in Yuma, AZ, as well. God it wasn't even minority there, unless you considered the fact that the whites were quite possibly a minority. The conditions I saw there were reprehensible. Twenty-eight percent unemployment when I was there, they said.
I dated a woman for a bit, who was staying with friends. They got evicted a week or two after we started dating. Her and her sons ended up starting to stay in a tent out in the back yard of the friends I was staying with. Before that, I saw her roommate, at one point, drop her infant on the floor, accidentally. The size and color of the lump on that child's cranium was horrifying, and she looked concerned, but certainly didn't do anything about it. Again, with torn families and no support networks, everyone was balls deep in drugs and alcohol.
The cops that I tried to get in there to take care of that situation didn't care. They just didn't care. There were people shooting off the top of buildings in town every few weeks. They pulled their guns out and had armed and ready backup when they were serving warrants. They just didn't give a shit.
We live in one of the nicest places on earth, too. The income disparity is only getting worse, and lending more fuel to this fire that is destroying every means that we have to keep ourselves stable. People in the upper or middle classes don't see it, but it's everywhere. Christ I should go around town, take some videos, and put them on youtube from here. The sorrow is spreading, and it comes primarily from the sociopaths that rise to the top of finance, business, and government, because they are the ones willing to do the unethical things like stabbing others in the back that those with morals will not do. It gives them an unfair advantage, and we all suffer for it as our lives are bought out from under us.
Sorry, this is something that pains me on a daily basis as I consider the future for those whom I dedicate my life to. My rant is now over.
