There only needed to be a preponderance of evidence, ffs. I've done law enforcement in the Army. They seriously didn't even indict the guy? All you need is a preponderance of evidence... The rules of engagement and levels of force training dictates pretty frigging clearly that you don't shoot somebody for running away, or, in the worst case scenerio that the prosecutor described, even for getting punched in the face. You only use lethal force when there is absolutely no other way to avoid it.
This 'thin blue line' that prevents DAs and judges and police from having accountability within this system where we used to have checks and balances needs to be set on fire. It needs to not exist. Officers of the law need to be held to a standard of higher integrity than those they seek to control. Our system is broken.

Ferguson resident here, and I agree with you. Hard to believe that with all the eyewitnesses they wouldn't make an effort to take it to court where everything could have been aired publicly and transparently.

I never thought I'd see the day that I agreed with Al Sharpton, but I thought his news conference today with the Michael Brown lawyers was spot on. I was nodding my head to almost everything he said.

I want peace for my town. I want normalcy. But I have also come to see that the old normal meant injustice for black folks. I want that to change.

Just wish the confrontation could be ratcheted down. Channel that anger into actual change that makes a meaningful difference.

AMEN. I have a 7 month old daughter. I am teaching her to not judge people by their external appearance, skin color etc., but to judge people solely on their behaviors and attitudes. If we all do that with the babies, we can eradicate prejudices.....

Everything I've heard about the process up to this point has spoken to me of nothing more than jury leading and an utter deviation to all established modes of behavior. All of it directed in a manner lending cred to the notions that the prosecuting attorneys, the judicial system representatives, law enforcement's executive liasons, and legislative power holders are working together to protect an inner cabal of government employees and 'good old boys' clubs that may, at times, be affiliated with tendencies including racism and other hate & intoleranced based forms of stifling human compassion and equality.

I never thought I'd see the day that I agreed with Al Sharpton, but I thought his news conference today with the Michael Brown lawyers was spot on. I was nodding my head to almost everything he said.

After the initial spew of verbal diarrhea from the prosecutor I haven't been able to handle much of any of the serious discussion of it. I get to a point where I hear official responses or actions on the matter and I just can't believe I live in a society where people can do and say these things with a straight face. Al Sharpton had some things to say earlier on that I remember agreeing with quite a bit, though... There was one shpiel by him that I remember paying attention to for quite a bit. The whole thing is just so obviously rotten to the core that its far reaching postulates should bother every person concerned with physical safety and justice for any human being at a very fundamental level. Yet there are still people paying in to make Darren Wilson a richer man, and saying in ignorance of the entirety of the facts and appropriate law enforcement responsibilities and training that Michael Brown got what he deserved and that he was just a criminal.

I want peace for my town. I want normalcy. But I have also come to see that the old normal meant injustice for black folks. I want that to change.

Yes. I'm grateful for having a son who causes my world to be much more
open to the plights of people in different colored inskins than it might be had he never come into this world. I learned a lot of the history of what his mother went through in Kenya, and a lot of Europe's racism, which led to where we're at today. Yet with as much as I know that they bear a cross every day that we can barely imagine, I also know that my secondhand knowledge is still only a tiny sliver of feeling what it is truly like.

Just wish the confrontation could be ratcheted down. Channel that anger into actual change that makes a meaningful difference.

We need the established status quo ejected in such a manner that they do not ever consider returning. We need fresh minds, people who have not been drawn to positions of power for dominion, but have elected to work on helping people in direct ways. They need to be made to handle the responsibility for a time that does not allow establishment of corruption right away, and we can grow for awhile in a new process before human corruption inevitably creeps in again. Hopefully by then we'll have made enough advancements so that we can't reach anything comparing to the depths of where we've found ourselves at at this point.
IMO. Sorry, I'm feeling philosophical tonight.
