Today is the 25th anniversary of the Loma Prieta Earthquake. It was the quake the first major earthquake that was broadcast live on national television, because of the coverage of the 1989 World Series that was going on at the time.
I was there, and I lived through it. I'm guessing many others here have as well. Does anybody have any stories about their experience?

I was down in Atherton when it happened, having just played a game of
7th grade soccer against Menlo School. I remember we were down a couple players, the lucky kids who had tickets to the World Series that night.
The game was over and my grandma who had just moved over from Ohio was taking care of us because my folks were on vacation. We were actually
in thecar in the parking lot when it hit, and my grandma was freaking
the hell out as she had never experienced anything like that before.
It actually didn't feel like that bad of an earthquake to me, I'd felt enough in my 11 years at that point that it seemedlike just another one. Of course, that's also the only one of I've ever felt when I was in a
car - and it was like if you had 4 fat people grabbing the sides of it
and shaking it around. Maybe I was just used to cars moving a bit, but I assured grandma that this was a puny earthquake and nothing to be too concerned about.
Turns out I was proven very wrong when the power was outeverywhere and when we got home and managed to get batteries in the radio hearing that parts of the Bay Bridge and Nimitz collapsed.
During the time I lived in Santa Cruz a few years later the town was
still recovering from the Earthquake until maybe the early 2000's as a good portion of downtown was taken out.
The weird thing is though, probably for at least another 11 years I
never event felt the earth so much as rumble. I think that one tuned
down my seismic sensors.
Contrast that with my experience with Hurricane Ike that happened in 2009. over hurricane country any day.
