    Any classic gamers out there?

I have a home arcade with 11 cabinets: Star Castle (a cabinet I converted from a Trivia Whiz cabaret powered by MAME), Monaco GP (cabaret), Galaga (MAME cabinet with about 30 classic shooters loaded on it), Centipede (MAME cabinet that plays trackball/spinner games), Missile Command, Make Trax (MAME cabinet with several hundred classic games), Congorilla (60-in-1 board), Donkey Kong 3, Cosmic Alien, Mr. Do! and Pole Position (MAME running Pole Position II).

I also collect classic consoles and computers. I have Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, ColecoVision, Intellivision, Vectrex, NES, Super NES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Playstation, Playstation II, Sega Genesis, Master System, Odyssey 2, C64, Atari 800, TI-99/4A, Atari Lynx and Sega Game Gear.

I go to the annual classic arcade tournament at Funspot (funspotnh.com) in New Hampshire about every other year (it's an 8 hour drive for me). I also go to the Too Many Games Expo every year (just outside Philly).

I have a YouTube channel called "TheRetrocade" which has "Let's Play" vids along with arcade videos and other nonsense you can check out.

    Favorite arcade game: Star Castle
    Favorite home console: ColecoVision

I'm also the world record holder on Star Castle (Vectrex) with over 1,000,000 points scored. My performance was streamed live on Twitch.TV and archived on my YouTube channel. Score verified by RecordSetter.

I enjoy the classic arcade games you mentioned, although I haven't visited any arcades in a long time. However I enjoy playing classic arcade games on my PC (with collections such as Atari Arcade Classics for Windows).

I'm running a BBS on my Atari 800 at the moment, I'm working on a 1040ST with a brandnew CosmosEx which is just the most awesome use of a raspberryPi i've ever witnessed (It serves as a HDD, Network, USB connection for any ST/STE system, it's just awesome)

most of my classic games are Atari based, though I want to get an Amiga, ZX, and TI-99 systems at some point, but money is extremely tight, so that's all on hold.

I have a home arcade with 11 cabinets: Star Castle (a cabinet I converted

Yeah, I live in a mobile home, that ain't happening, but I am so jelious of anyone with any vector monitor games.

Because back in the day Computers were a lot simpler than they are today. I can replace the 6502C CPU for $4 from mouser.com. All the other logic chips on the mainboard are common parts that you can find online quite easily, there's only a couple chips that are custom (ANTIC, GTIA) and fortunatly the market is flooded with them so I won't have a problem replaceing them in the near future. The PSU may be an issue, but I've seen enough A800 PSUs on ebay that I'm not too worried.

My 800 has a mod called Incognito that lets me run any 8-bit OS, use up to 1meg of ram (the max you can use), has a CF memory card that I can use as a HDD, and a bunch of other features that aren't really utilized (yet).

    telnet://shodan.synchro.net:9000

for a demo. I'm [trying] to help develop a new BBS for the 8-bits written in cc65 (C for 6502c cpu). Still in early development. I'm thinking of trying to write a QWK networking module for it, but that's a long way off. Also want to do a B-Tree messaging system. Should be cool.

Congrats on the 3yo, though too bad about the free time! As a father of four,
I totally understand. This year my youngest is in preschool 3 times a week, so finally my wife and I will get a few regular kid-less hours.

As far as the CosmosEx, I'm still kind of getting everything set up, and sending bug reports to Jookie. He fixed the issue that was keeping larger SD cards from working, so I now have my card formatted with ICD and working like
    a hard drive.

I'm in the process of downloading a bunch of games and programs using my Mac, then passing them over to the Atari via the CE's "translated drive." But I
have found a new bug, where the CE doesn't copy all the files in a folder from the translated drive to the SD card. Hopefully Jookie will get that sorted before too long.

Will you be at the Classic Gaming Expo in September? I shall see you
No I won't be there this year. Money's tight and since I went to Funspot this year I won't be able to travel to any other events.

Next year in Pittsburgh will be Replay Festival Extravaganza which I suppose will be similar to California Extreme. I'd like to go to that show and spend the weekend exploring Pittsburgh.

I'd like to go to California Extreme some year and explore the Bay Area while I'm there. And stop by High Scores Arcade which relocated from Burlington, NJ to the Bay Area.

Classic Gaming Expo is on my to-do list some year. I just don't know when I'll have the money to make that trip. I'd like to go to California Extreme before I go to CGE.

Are you in the Twin Galaxies book?
No. At the time I achieved the record on Star Castle, Twin Galaxies was not accepting live streams for score submissions and I refused to burn it to DVD and send it in. When they start accepting score submissions again AND IF they accept archived streams I will submit to them. Twin Galaxies high score on Star Castle (Vectrex) is a joke - 47K compared to my score of over a million.

I have a handful of other top scores on Twin Galaxies but honestly I don't have the desire to chase after high scores anymore - that and not having the time. When I have the time to play games I enjoy just playing games without a care for trying to attempt a high score.

Aside from that, I do enjoy going to Funspot and playing in the annual tournament. I know I won't win the tournament but I have fun submitting scores in a system where referrees are there to adjudicate
    a live performance.

Wow, I'm having such "fun" with the 1, I can't imagine 4. At what point did it start getting "easier"? (If you don't mind my asking)

As far as the CosmosEx, I'm still kind of getting everything set up, and sending bug reports to Jookie. He fixed the issue that was keeping larger SD cards from working, so I now have my card formatted with ICD and working like a hard drive.

So I got my CosmosEx (CosmoSex?) hooked up and a really nice condition SC1224, I'm getting CEDD Boot Loader message and a 4 bomb stop. I hooked up the Raspberry to my HDMI and updated the software, and now I'm getting 11 bombs. I suspect it's my SD card which is a 4gig wifi sd card and prone to issues. Gonna see if I can find some old SD cards tonight.

I'm in the process of downloading a bunch of games and programs using my Mac, then passing them over to the Atari via the CE's "translated drive." Yeah, I may start a dialog with him and see if he can help.

I think that going from no kids to one kid is definitely the biggest change. For me, once I made the adjustment to the reality of not being able to do whatever I wanted at a moment's notice, to having to consider and care for this other little creature, the other ones weren't so much of a life change.

Obviously they each presented their own challenges, but it's not terribly hard to go from 3 kids to 4. ;)

As far as getting easier, for me the magic moment was when they all graduated to booster seats. No more having to mess with all the seatbelts in the carseats.

So I got my CosmosEx (CosmoSex?) hooked up and a really nice condition SC1224, I'm getting CEDD Boot Loader message and a 4 bomb stop. I would suggest booting without the SD card, and making sure you can get to the desktop. Also, FWIW, you can SSH into the CosmosEx, so the HDMI isnt' strictly necessary.

It's the little things. I remember the first time my son was able to sit up in a grocery cart, with a little help from 2 rolls or paper towels on either side of him. Before that I was limited to pushing a stroller while holding a hand basket in one hand. I could buy a 12-pack of Soda! A baguette! wine!

Never have I seen "Pac-Man" typed more times in a single paragraph. I think I have the PacMan version for gamecube where 1 person plays pacman and 3 players use Gameboys to control ghosts. Great party game, expensive, but if you could find 3 people with Gameboys it wasn't too bad. That game and the Final Fantasy: Crystal Somethingorother game was awesome.

I'd love to own my own pinball machine, but damn are those things expensive (unless you wanna take the time to restore an old one, which can also be expensive). Zen is a great video pinball group, their tables are pretty cool (for pinball tables that don't have physical versisons), but I rarely subscribe to video pinball. The iOS app Pinball Arcade licenses actual tables and makes video versions for iOS/Android, but each table is like $5-$9 each. Games that I want to relive in video format are pretty cool, but not for that price. I have the Williams and Stern Collection on my PSP, for like $20 bucks I got 20'ish tables, totally worth it.

At any rate, I'd still trade it all in to own an actual table for my abode, but good tables aren't cheap, and ones that are well used are affordable, but need mechincal maintenance that would require a bit of learning i'm certain.
