Re: BBS Software Obtainment in Today's World

I am thinking of setting up a nostalgic BBS for my mother...my biggest question so far is where can this stuff be obtained in this modern day when half of it and the makers are gone?
For example, she wants the original Wildcat! server, which to my
research was replaced with WINS. Would I be able to pull off a full Wildcat! emulation with Synchronet, or would she be able to tell the difference?
Synchronet has a Wildcat shell, but she might still be able to tell a difference. I'm sure more customization could be done via scripting & text files to make it look more like Wildcat in places that the shell doesn't cover.
And then of course doors. Where to get doors nowadays? Does everyone
rely on cracks and keygens since most doors cannot be purchased? And can those even be found? Google is not very helpful in this.
Yes, in some cases we have to rely on cracks & key generators for software that has been long abandoned. There is still some BBS software and doors that can be registered though.
Google searching led me to some web sites several years ago:
BBS Archives (they have lots of old BBS software and doors, including older software that is now abandonware):
http://archives.thebbs.org/
BBSFiles (with registerable BBS doors):

Sunrise Doors:

Jibben Software:

Gameport (they have LORD, etc., but from what I've heard, lately they have not been responsive to registration payments):

TradeWars:

Tournament Trivia (used to be shareware but has recently been open-sourced with the keygen made available):

Buffalo Creek (Spitfire BBS software):

Sadly, some of the other BBS door sites I have bookmarked seem to have disappeared.
