Legend of the Red Dragon, Barren Realms Elite, Operation: Overkill II, and Land of Devastation all seem popular. I also like Planets: TEOS, Tournament Trivia, and there are a couple Tetris doors I like.

I enjoy Solomoriah's War, it's like Civilization, but without the tech tree or resource management, so it's move armies, conquer cities, set production for each city, done. First person to capture 28 cities, wins. Only good if you have a lot of regular callers.

Every BBS has LORD, Usurper, DoorMUD, Barren Realms, etc. All those games are fine, but everyone has em it seems. If you're looking for something different do you have a genre you want to stick too, are there any games you like so we could suggest something similar?

LORD is definitely the most popular here. I recommend checking out bbslink.net and adding the doors they have. It's a super easy way for multiple boards to all be playing the same games and the best thing is that users play a different charachter from each board in the same game so it encourages them to call all the boards if they're really into the game. :)

If I remember correctly Mark has set up LORD, LORD2, Pimpwars, Operation Overkill 2, and TEOS. All registered versions as well (not cracked!)

Some that I like are Darkness, Star Trek, Lunatix, and BarneySplat :)

That's what I like about the bbslink.net games - it's like having a interbbs game, but without relying on networks - they're real-time interbbs games. Just need more people using it. :) I'm thinking about donating some registered games to Mark so he can run them on the server - just want to get permission from the developer(s) first since I just registered them recently.

okay, i found it. it's on github. seems very rough around the edges
and only works as a doorgame using stdio redirection and you have to pass a command line onto it.

i'm not sure how he thinks he can call it a doorgame when it doesnt have dropfile support or even support to display to the caller.

I'd encourage you to check out Synchronet's newer JS games, too. My family has enjoyed Bubble Boggle, Uber Blox, Star Trek, and Chicken Delivery.

Well, I know of a couple on facebook (unfortunately). The one that comes to mind first is 604 BBS'ers, chatboarders, and 'modemmers' in general. Looks like it was created just for 604 area code at first, but it seems to have quasi-regular posts and some readership. You can hit it at https://www.facebook.com/groups/2316899757/ .
I'll try to remember to look for a few more, later. I also got a few bumps on twitter and tumblr from advertising; it helps when someone with a huge following bumps your message and comments on it, of course.

Yeah, but when setting things up it can be easier with a web presence since 99% of the time we're downloading things from websites. Plus, if support (even community based) is 100% confined to the boards, then how would one get to them... remember, not everyone has done this before. The web is where newbies feel comfortable these days so that's where they'll look for help ... at least until they get into the swing of things. :) I'm just trying to help grow the community; get the word out, etc..

There's a similar FB group for the St. Louis area (314/618), which I created many years ago as a "sibling" to a St. Louis BBSers group I had created on MySpace even earlier.

Yeah, I've noticed that a lot of them seem to be based on area codes, but when I've posted randomly about different telnet/ssh systems they haven't gotten anally retentive about that, or anything. Pretty sure they all know that the area codes are irrelevant these days. If I remember I'll look and see if there are any generalized ones for TCP connection systems; if not I'll try to make one up on FB, and the like. I suppose I should hunt for some forums soon here, too.

Anyway, this year there was a spontaneous eruption of activity,
which lasted a couple months. It was very strange. There were hundreds of (legitimate) comments a day for a while. But, like all things, it petered out eventually.

There was pretty steady flow, when I got my system first online two or three years ago. It didn't seem to be ebbing, or anything... Then my system went down for quite awhile, due to my recurrent homelessness in NoDak. Now that I'm back, and for the brief period of a couple of months that I was on from Minot, ND, it's definitely lacking. Seems like even the devs have a lot less time on their hands for such... Maybe it's the capitalist screws being tightened more on the public, maybe people are all starting to totally lose interest at the same time for some reason. I'm certainly hoping its not the latter, but even if it is, my system is staying up. I'm very much looking forward to customizing mine to the point where it will be a good communication hub even in the event of serious internet lockdown.
Wish I wouldn't have missed that burst. :P
