computer a neighbor told me about the local BBS. I frequently visited Rob's BBS Arcadeand Crystal Cave BBS in Northern Indiana. I liked to
play LORD mostly and message other local members. I currently really enjoywatching old Computer Chronicles episodes. Just hearing that theme song really takes me back to a purer time and more exciting time for me personally with computers. Also old CNet episodes are great. I don't

What are the "Computer Chronicle"? Is it a TV show? I remember reading a weekly (or was it montly) newspaper called the Computer Chronicles back in
    the 90s.

He might not be working there anymore, but he has said himself in all of his interviews about the show that the archive.org repository is the official archive for it, coming from tapes made by the network themselves. YouTube videos are either home-made tapes or reuploads from archive.org, so you might as well just watch the source material :P

I used to love Lord. I *USED TO* have LORD and LORD2 registered. Would love to get it running again. What I really loved about Lord2 was how you could make your own maps. It was kinda like you made your own adventure game. You could make the maps setup like your own house, yard, town, etc. I gotta look at Lord2 again and setup a map like my town....

No, it a Javascript file passes your user number (only) from the client to a PHP script on the server and then connects you by telnet. Took some Synchronet source modification on the server too.

LORD and TEOS are in a very grey area regarding registration at the moment. Gameport don't appear to be responding to enquiries, registrations etc so the games appear abandonware until they can be registered, which is sad because that also means no more development.

gameport was giving people blank registration codes and taking the money.
they were then forwarding those people to mike preslar even though gameport was supposed to be handling that.

gameport is just one guy at multiserv.
    also they ripped off preslar.

i'm pretty sure the teos source due to seth losing it.

i wouldnt want anybody to register lord or teos via gameport.

people have tried to buy the rights to it and while there has been some talk back and forth, gameport usually cuts off all contact.

i got together with a pool of people and we offered 6k for lord, and i was going to give preslar's code to him to develop and give him the rights to weblord dev, and then make seth's code open source, but no talkie from gameport.

i'm pretty sure you can do what you're doing just with rlogin. i've seen people do it before.

i wouldnt want anybody to register lord or teos via gameport.

I have always loved playing LORD and would genuinely like to register it and LORD2 and TEOS. But when I do hand over any cash, I want to give it to someone who will appreciate it and develop the game further. The whole situation at
the moment stinks and I hope Michael Preslar can take over in some way.

people have tried to buy the rights to it and while there has been some
talk back and forth, gameport usually cuts off all contact.

That seems to bizarre to me. Why refuse 6 grand for something you clearly have no interest in? Especially when it's not generating you any income as it is because you can't be bothered to cooperate with the people who actually want
to hand over money to you!

i'm pretty sure you can do what you're doing just with rlogin. i've seen people do it before.

I'm pretty sure I could too, and that's the way I started development. The reason I went for what I did was that Rlogin isn't supported by all BBS software and I want this to be as universal as possible. I designed it with Synchronet in mind because I've been using Sync since 2002 and that's what I'm ost familiar with now (Wildcat 4 back in the day!). I've already got someone who is interested in porting the connection script to x/84.

Appreciated - I have no idea where I got the codes from now, it was a while ago. All I remember is that they were not at all hard to come by, and will remove them immediately if anyone with reason too has a problem with it. I still want to purchase all three myself when I can actually do so...

it with the DOSEMU option before, and found out DOSEMU doors only worked with 32-bit linux. So, I copied everything to a backup partition, installed

refuses to find it! I use apt-get install -y dosemu (I looked on the web, debian says the package name for wheezy, and 2 other distributions are all named dosemu. I used the online sourcelist generator and copied all the sources from there to my linode's sourcelist.d directory, in a text file
called kf5qeo.list. I ran update, it took a little longer to refresh all the new sources, and I tried to install dosemu, it still claims it couldn't be found. who knows....

I wouldn't mind putting Lord on my Synchronet BBS,
but the darn linode seems to be determined to make all my hair go grey. I compiled it with the DOSEMU option before, and found out DOSEMU doors only worked with 32-bit linux. So, I copied everything to a backup partition, installed Debian 7, 32-bit. I then restored everything, ran through all
the pre-requesits, re-compiled Synchronet. Tried to install DOSEMU, and it refuses to find it! I use apt-get install -y dosemu (I looked on the web, debian says the package name for wheezy, and 2 other distributions are all named dosemu. I used the online sourcelist generator and copied all the sources from there to my linode's sourcelist.d directory, in a text file called kf5qeo.list. I ran update, it took a little longer to refresh all the new sources, and I tried to install dosemu, it still claims it couldn't be found. who knows....

    John,

This may vary with Linode, but I had similar problems with installing on
Ubuntu 12.04 on a standard OpenVZ VPS. I got it working by editing my /etc/apt/sources.list and adding 'multiverse' to the end of each repository line. Mine looks like this:

deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise main restricted universe multiverse deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise-updates main
    restricted universe multiverse
    deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu precise-security main restricted
    universe multiverse
    deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu precise partner

I'll answer Mro, again, in good faith knowing that if there be
any real merit to the meat of the sentiment I'm going to express that
someone else will quote it so it shows up despite his attempts to
Americanize 'his' life until his paradigm is properly satisfied. You
see, I'm kind of like the fucker, myself. Which is what really sucks.
Where, my good sir Mro, did the deed to ownership of this life,
this planet, the body that needs to be fueled, and the like, possibly
go? It must've gone to the same place that all of the raw materials
that I could've sold, if I had any deed to the land that I was born on.
But I don't because it belongs to the what? Bankers? Who do what?
Reshuffle the deck and move the fuck on after they consolidate all of
their real world assets by foreclosing on phony paper debt? Why yes, I
believe we've answered the question. Thank you for playing along.

Do you mean Computer Chronicles?? I hae every episode (I think).. I also have all of the "BBS The Documentary" episodes too.

If either of these are what you are looking for, I can put a temporay link on my home server for you. They are up to 30GB in size and would take days to download to you... We here in Australia are limited to a 1MB uplink...
