Re: Help with Dovenet and perhaps Synchronet generally

Hi guys, I'm getting back into this BBS thing because I always liked it more than websites... Anyhow, I won't state all the reasons why I love bbs'ing, b it's true. I need a little help and sorry if I'm in the wrong forum, but my other doveNet boards besides Advertising don't seem to have any messages or updating,so I'm posting here because there's a fair amount of tech talk goin on, and plus to say hi and all that jazz.

I think there's a lot of potential in BBS's but it's a tad esoteric going ba to some of this old software as there is a lot of outdated or non-existent i out there, or that points me on wild goose chases. But it's fun. I've figu out some things clearly as hopefully you're reading this on doveNet and hopefully I'll hear back from you. I'd love to say the email through the server was working, although some hosts will take it, I haven't gotten my incoming mail to work here. Not that I want regular email. I like this interbbs communication. If there's something I should do to augment my standing or ability in that regard, please let me know.
I'm learning a lot on my own, but what's up with my dovenet, can you guys re this? And what's up with the file sections, do you guys have something that will download in Zmodem or is that just because there's still traditionalism and such going on...

Anyhow, if anyone wants to help me with my bbs for kicks and giggles, let me know. If all goes as planned, it should introduce a lot of people to bbs'in as I'm putting together this comedy news website that gets search traffic ev though it's just up as a miniminal proof of concept, although the syndicatio to all the relevant places works fine. It's all based off wordpress and has rss feeds and drops bombs on twitter and facebook.

Eventually I want to bring some text from the ether-web back to my BBS. Sin my listserv doesn't work, I'm thinking telgate or IRC are my best options. I'm just rambling now I suppose. I think I can do javascript stuff, but I'm not sure what to use baha for etc. I'm pretty sure I want to make or custom some doors that are complimentart to the site. Most people think I'm kind o silly for wanting to work on this stuff right now, and maybe it is. DoveNET can you hear me? Is there anybody out there? And how will I know if you've heard me? blah blah blah blah

I hear ya.. I ran a BBS 20 years ago... and just got back into it about 6 months ago and had to re-figure everything out again.. took me a good month but now I have about 100 Fidonet echomail board, Dovenet, and several other echomail nets tied into my BBS now and all the classic door games.. Im still working on how to get the networked file areas up and running, and need to do some customization to the BBS look and feel.. but it's the best thing I have done as a hobby for myself since back in the BBS days.. bring back all the memories...
