Anyone catch the Beastie Boys doc from Spike Jonez on the Apple+ thingamabob?
Having been a teen in the late 80's and early 90's, this was a pretty fun look back at their genesis, and at this musical time period.
Have to admit, the live audience recording made it a little bit of an odd format, kind of felt forced/rehearsed even with the all the supposed 'glitches.' And the last 1/3 felt a little long, but overall it was a great ride. Self-reflective, going from a story about a label that cynically wanted a NYC white hip-hop party group to a 3 artists & friends searching for their own sound, and in the case of the late Adam Yauch (MCA), searching for soul/purpose. He's the last dude I would have pictured as a convert to Buddhism.
Worth a watch even if you only remember the hits (and there were many) or a fan of their B-Sides.
