  • The Guns of the Death God

    Hello.

    I wrote another short story and I needed a title for it. I have thought "The Guns of the Death God".

    Which sort of story do you think one with such title is like?

    I think I didn't miss the mark by much, then.

    Somebody told me elsewhere that it reminded him ofhardcore metal bands such as Slayer, which is a bit worrysome :-)

    Well, I believe that several metal bands drew inspiration for their songs
    from works of science fiction and/or horror, so I'd not worry too much. :)

    It conjures Cthulhu-esqe imagery to my mind. a Lovecraftian horror theme?

    Or maybe something like Neil Gaiman's American Gods?

    Actually not a great fan of Slayer. The guitar work is fun but overall it is a bit too noisy for me.

    The story is a sci-fi piece about a terrorist who seizes a shipment of antique Homo Sapiens guns at a galaxyport, which is about to be shipped to a museum, on the grounds that the weapons are sacred to some ancient Homo Sapiens god and that the voices in her head are telling her what to do. So not exactly Lovecraftian or Gaimanesque.

    For such story I figure a more suitable name would The Implements of the Death God. Instead of implying they are firearms right off the bat. It brings for th the imagery of maybe something more destructive or sinister. It keeps the reader guessing what these impements may be.

    I will consider it, but "guns" have much more hook than "implements". Still, probably a good idea to not give away too much information, so dunno...

    Sounds good. It conjures up more than guns. Conjures up everything from
    sharp sticks to devices that deliver fire, pestilence, and death.
