Neil Peart, drummer and primary lyricist for Rush, dead at 67

Drummer died in Santa Monica, Calif., earlier this week after years of fighting brain cancer.

Saw them a couple of times on their Roll the Bones tour. He was an incredible talent. :(

I heard about that. Sad. :( The articles say "years" of battling brain cancer, but I read it started in 2016, which was only a few years ago. Rush's farewell tour was in 2015 (I saw them at my local venue). Seems like brain cancer comes on quick. :(

I wondered if he did not have it before and this was a reoccurance, due to
    the wording. :(

Yeah, no shit. Just the way they say 'years' tends to make me think many more than just 4 years. I just saw Rush in 2015 during their farewell tour and he seemed fine. 2015 wasn't that long ago.

    that's just a perception problme.

if they said 'decades ago' that is a longer time frame.

if someone i knew had been fighting cancer for years, i would think it is more than 1 year. 4 years isnt a stretch in using that terminology.

True.. When someone says "for years", I tend to think more than a couple years or so. If something has been happening for just 2 years for instance, I don't think it makes much sense to say it has been happening "for years".
