what is your favorite music, band or singer?

I tend to like classic rock, 80s, soft rock, and some techno. It's hard to choose one favorite, but these are some bands/musicians I like (in no particular order):
    Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler
    The Beatles
    Paul McCartney
    George Harrison
    Pink Floyd
    Edie Brickell
    Norah Jones
    Kraftwerk
    The Doobie Brothers
    Rush
    Paul Simon

I could name more.. And there are various one-off hits I like too..

Dude, Wierd Al's "White and Nerdy" kills me! :-D
I like that one, but I think I enjoy "It's All About The Pentiums" better. :)
    Nightfox

I think my favorite from him has to be either "Eat it" or "Amish Paradise". When I lived in New Mexico, there was a morning show that used to play his song "Albuqerque" every morning when they came on the air. I got sick of it very quickly. I saw an interview he did where he said he wrote it in an attempt to "annoy everyone listening for 11 minutes." I think he suceeded. ;-)

There's a video of the first take of Donny Osmond dancing in the video - he's dancing non-stop for the whole video, and out of breath at the end.

My favorite band is of the genre of pop. I am still not yet decided. I liste to Music Choice channels on cable. I like country as well.

My favorite band is Judast Priest. But Only 1969-1996 JP.

My favorite singer is a toss up between Rob Halford of Priest, and Ronnie James Dio. Dio might have the best voice of all time. Rob might have the best range.

    I obviously prefer rock/metal.

But don't for a second think I'm limited to that...

Pop wise i think Prince's B SIDES lp might be one of the most under rated LP
s of all time, showcasing is writing, arrangement and singing abilities like no other regular releases of his could do.

PS Spooky Tooth was a heck of a band

what is your favorite music, band or singer?

I tend to like classic rock, 80s, soft rock, and some techno. It's hard to choose one favorite, but these are some bands/musicians I like (in no particular order):
    Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler
    The Beatles
    Paul McCartney
    George Harrison
    Pink Floyd
    Edie Brickell
    Norah Jones
    Kraftwerk
    The Doobie Brothers
    Rush
    Paul Simon

I could name more.. And there are various one-off hits I like too..

    Nightfox

The doobie brothers and rush.... yes.... what about little river band, steely dan?

what is your favorite music, band or singer?

It's hard to pick one. Currently on heavy rotation on my Spotify:
    Amon Amarth
    Lamb of God
    Slayer (duh)
    Ghost
    Pantera
    Rammstein
    The Acacia Strain
    Gwar

Sometimes I pepper in some Weird Al here and there.

    DaiTengu

... A rolling stone gathers momentum.

No king diamond in that rotation?

RJD has such depth to his voice, though - amazing singer.

I've been listening to older metal and noting some of the more impressive singers. Old Geoff Tate from Queensryche was one, Jay Gillen from Badlands on "Dreams in the Dark" is pretty amazing, and Graham Bonnet in Alcatrazz was a favorite of mine. He passed away way too soon.

Re-listening to that album after many years makes me realize how much Ozzy's sound relied on Jake E. Lee's guitar sound. Sad that he got screwed over by the Osbournes.

My latest (ongoing) metal indulgence is Devin Townsend. I don't know anyone who's done anywhere near the latitude of work he's done, and I think his voice is getting better.

It was played over and over on the radio. It made me nuts. It's a "chick" song. Women went crazy over that song. It's a far cry from the hard rock bands I listened to. We had two stations back then. WBLI played the "Pop" songs and WBAB played the "Rock". The chicks liked WBLI. I hated that song Reminising but the chicks loved it so I had to tolerate it. ;-)

Ozzy's voice is so unique, he'll always be an interesting standout. Black Sabbath was very bluesy in their early days and those are my favorite ozzy efforts.

Townsend gets mad props for modern metal singer.

I do think Geoff Tate was an excellent singer as well but here's the thing- like ozzy, all his vocals sound the same to me. You can tell he has a great pitch and range, but unlike dio and halford, he can't sound like 3 different people. He always sounds like Geoff.

I saw badlands with tesla and great white in Tampa Florida. It was a great show. badnlands live stole the show to be honest.

I'm sure you've heard LRB songs but just probably didn't know it was them. You've heard "Reminicsing", "Cool Change", "Lonesome Loser", "Lady" ?

The other day I looked up Reminiscing and Lonesome Loser and didn't recognize them.. Not sure I'm familiar with Cool CHange or Lady.

For dinner music, we've been seeding Pandora with 70s bands like Pablo Cruise, LRB, Seals and Crofts... makes for good hanging-out music.

I remember Pablo Cruise, though the only song of theirs I can think of offhand is "I Go To Rio" (from their album 'Worlds Away').

Pop wise i think Prince's B SIDES lp might be one of the most under rated LP s of all time, showcasing is writing, arrangement and singing abilities like no other regular releases of his could do.

PS Spooky Tooth was a heck of a band

It's hard to pick one. Currently on heavy rotation on my Spotify:
    Amon Amarth
    Lamb of God
    Slayer (duh)
    Ghost
    Pantera
    Rammstein
    The Acacia Strain
    Gwar

the band said what really happened with the cowbell was pretty close to the skit. i dont know how snl came up with bruce dickenson.

I just assumed they thought it was a cool sounding name. Or maybe one of the writers or cast members was a Maiden fan (or both).

... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/More_Cowbell says it was neither:

Christopher Walken portrays producer The Bruce Dickinson, not to be confused with the Iron Maiden vocalist of the same name. Dickinson was not the actual producer of "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." The song was produced by David Lucas,[10] who had discovered the band and produced their first album, and also Agents of Fortune and Spectres. The actual Bruce Dickinson was a mid-level manager at Columbia Records whose name appears on a Blue ™yster Cult reissue CD and a greatest hits compilation as the "reissue producer". The SNL intern who was sent out to get the record got a "hits" compilation CD instead of Agents of Fortune.

christopher walken is amazing in anything he does so it's good they were finally able to do the skit with him hosting the show. that was back when SNL was funny.

I still think SNL is funny, often. Not always and not *as* funny, but still funny.

A vocal coach will praise his sustain, his ability to hold a note, his ability to go from low to shriek in an instant, and they are right. One of the most power rock voices ever.

    HOWEVER,

Rob and Ronnie could sing like angels.

Or whatever the hell they wanted to sound like, and that's the diff.

GWAR is my favorite band of all time, in case it wasn't obvious.

Urungus was Urobvious... I figured as much.

    GWAR was talented.
When I was younger I rented the VHS tape of Scumdogs of the Universe and back then I thought slymenstra hymen was hot.

Unlike many of my friends who thought they were a gimmick, I actually thought they were a really talented group of musicians. I didn't really care for them, but they rocked the fuck out. Maggots.

I put them in the same class as Man o War... Extremely hard fucking rockers, loud, but not in my list of favorites.

There was just something about the music on the Them album that I can't get enough of. Sorta like Queensryche's Operation Mindcrime lp... The songs all go together so well and not just because of the story.

There was actual thought behind the music on THEM and the drums were so technically sound (actually, so were Queensryche's, interesting).

Rob and Ronnie could sing like angels.
    Or demons.
    Or rockers.
Or whatever the hell they wanted to sound like, and that's the
    diff.

I personally liked Axl back in the day but never considered him a good singer. Its apparent now after all the cocaine and drugs that his style of singing isn't conducive to longevity. He's out of breath all the time, sings on in/out breathing cadence, just horrible.
Dio was sooooo goood with Rainbow.
Listen to Rainbow Eyes or Don't Talk to Strangers.
Listen to Rob Halford at the Whistle Stop singing Dreamer Deceiver and remember it is LIVE.

Oh man Rob Halford is legendary. A lot of his music came wayyyy before it's time. I saw GnR in like.. 2009 or so, and honestly his singing sounded like one of the chipmunks. Great show, but left something to be desired.

Once upon a time.. I was in the back hallway of a house I lived in which was broken up into three units. Main, upper, and lower. The upper unit had stairs in the back hallway. I used to hang out back there and smoke cigarettes and whatnot. One day me and a guy I used to jam with were sitting there and a maggot fell on the table. Then a few more. The guy upstairs had left his trash at the top and maggots were literally falling like rain. I laughed so hard ;p

When I saw KD recently I was amazed at what he really looks like in person, so not evil. And his health issues, to think he still performs.

    Thanks,
    Zombie Mambo

Yeah even recently he just had surgery, and is recovering.. but very slowly. I had tickets to see him in toronto a few years back but my wife fell ill and we couldn't find a sitter for my daughter. I wish i could have gone but at least he still got paid from our tickets. I also love the drums on THEM, as well as Abigail. All the musicians really, are VERY good. Totally unlike anything that comes out in todays music scene.

    Turbo was fucking awesome.

I a gree there is a bit of a dark age after it, but some of the super-new stuff they are making is quite good. Reedemer of Souls and Firepower are quite good in my opinion, more so if you realize it is a band of grandpas doing all the Metalling. That is dedication to Metal. Well, that, and Spanish Obus, with a record of concerts in a year by a band formed by 80ish year olds.

I am not a big fan of Maiden, mut the last album I heards from them was not good. Dance of Death (the theme) was a hit of genious. Such a long record with no chorus and they got it right somehow.

As for bands that sound the same, Joe Dimaggio has an opinion. When a magazine accused his band of keeping the same style all over through the years, his answer was: "When some dude buys a Manowar album, they want to listen to the Manowar they know, not some weird stuff." It is ironic because there is a noticeable change of style and production in the last albums and it is clearly a turn for the worst...

I disagree. Firepower to me sounds just like where they left of with Painkiller.
Honestly, there's disagreement amongst them that Tipton even played his parts on firepower. It was regarded as his send-off but I feel like he got screwed.

Priest needs to reform , with halford, downing, hill, and maybe Les Binks and do stuff like they did on Sin after Sin and Sad Wings of Destiny and even if Rob can't hit the beautiful highs like he could, they could still tell a story like no other band could.

    I'd pay to see that.

I think they did a lot of good stuff after that. At least until they broke their own advice and twisted their style in the latter albums. And even then, those albums are ok/so-so instead of plain bad.

I would not know how hard they were "gone" since I don't discover bands in the media and I am not really aware of how much presence people has on TV or on the Internet.

I have a couple a nephew in the music business. His biggest hurdle is electronic media. If you don't get your music carried by the iTunes, Google, Amazon, Spotify, Pandora, etc, you don't have a chance.

His point is that the market is fragmented. If a person has bought-in to one service, he/she is not likely to use the other services. Because of the customer behavior, you have to spend a bunch of time getting your stuff on many networks.

All good, and I'd have to put Iron Maiden and Dio as #1 and #2.

For sure they are at the top of the lists.

    Thanks,
