If I still lived in Binghamton NY, I'd still enjoy driving cab, but I can't do it here in Albuquerque, I'm just too scared!
What part of WV were you living in? I lived in Hedgesville for a while.
I hope you were in a good mood the day you dealt with those car dealers. I think car dealers are more despicable than any drug dealers. I can't handle them! They get me way too angry.
I was living in Smithfield. Actually I've found that once you expect them to
be sub-human jerks, generally speaking you can get along with them fairly
well (car dealers that is), as if you have no expectations of them, then they can't let you down, and can only impress you when they turn out to be nicer than you expected them to be.
When I had the cab co going in TN in some ways it was kind of funny at times. My friend that moved up from FL to TN to help me work it was kind of a
straight laced kinda guy, and in the county where we were located Cocke Cty
TN at the time there were 3 whore houses, 2 cock fighting arenas, and any number of bars that served both liquor by the shot (in a dry county) as well
as moonshine (the real deal), and when somebody would get into a cab he was driving, and want to go to the cock fights he would always act like he had no idea where they were, as he thought that it would be an accessory to a crime
if he just went and took them without them giving him directions on how to
get there. Well, one particular weekend there was a really big fight, and the first bunch of people he took to the fights, when he gets there, there's a Sherrifs dep. with the lights going on the top of his car, and he waves my friend over. At this point my friend is seeing visions of chain gangs going thru his mind, and he's freaking out, etc. when he gets up to where the Dep.
is standing next to his car, the Dep says to him "It's $5.00 for Parking" my friend is frozen, it takes him a few moments to realize he's not going to
jail, and then he realizes he has to explain to the guy that he's not going
to be parking, that he's a CAB, he's just dropping off his customers.
Another time he also freaked out due to 2 factors, first his past experiences with the lowlife cab riders in Fort Lauderdale, and secondly with the accent
of the local cops in TN. One day he drops a customer off at walmart, and he's coming back to the house that we're sharing as both our home, and office,
when a city cop pulls him over and walks up to the cab, and says to him " You have a fire in there?" He hears this and freaks out, turns around real fast, looking at the back seat, looking up & down, doesn't see anything. He says to the cop "was there a fire in here?" and the cop starts laughing, and says
"No, not a fire, a fire, F A R E". The cop was just stopping him to tell him that the speed limit was 45mph, and he was going 70, and that he should slow down a bit. Of course because they knew we lived in town they wouldn't
actually write either of us a speeding ticket, they only did that to
tourists. That is one thing I love about living in a small town, once they
get to know you, and know that you're basically an ok person, they basically don't bother you, for almost anything! I had a neighbor that was a lady in
her mid 70's and she used to hunt possum in the vacant lot across the street from her house (and next to mine) with a .22 rifle, and one time a city cop happened to come by while she was doing it, and told her she really shouldn't be doing that. Well, she told him fine, then he could just go and get the
last 2 that were out there that would fill her pot for the evening. Anywhere else somebody talks to a cop like that, they go to jail, but there, he took
her rifle, went into the lot, and shot 3 more possum for her!
