Yes, with a 10Mb upstream. The problem have been transient as I'm not seeing anywhere near that slow of a rate when pulling from multiple remote endpoints. If it turns out there is enough demand, I'll certainly move the location of the
mp3 files to a VPS or something else with plenty of bandwidth - that's why I used a different hostname. I don't think soundcloud would be a good fit.

That screenshot shows a download speed of 27.6K/s, that's kilobytes per second,
    not kilobits. So that's 27.6 * 1024 * 8 = 226,099 bits per second (or 226kbps).

When I test from remote locations, I consistently get around 100KB/s (that's about 800,000 bits per second), which I think is pretty good considering the concurrent usage my servers get. I'm on Charter/Spectrum business cable. Before
I switched (from AT&T DSL), you complained a lot about my upstream bandwidth (which was about 384kbps, iirc). You've complained less since I switched to cable.

In any case, the speed you're getting is plenty fast enough for live streaming (I'm encoding the MP3s for about 130kbps, VBR). With live streaming, you don't have to wait for the download to complete before you start listening.

I like the show so far, keep it up! :) (And thanks for the mention in episode two! heheh)

I also second comments about the download speed - it's horribly slow. It's taking me almost an hour to download each of the shows. At 50-65Mb each in size, that's bonkers. :) It's been running almost 10 minutes and I have 10.2 megs download and it says 5 hours left. Oh, now it says 48 minutes. I tried downloading the first show on my phone the day y'all put it up and 3 hours later I had about 35% and I cancelled it. I regularly download 200-300 meg files (android roms) on my phone and it will take 5-10 minutes tops. You should really host these on soundcloud or something. Even dropbox may be better.

I anticipated that the mp3 files should (eventually) be hosted somewhere else, but the numbers you're giving aren't consistent with my findings (I regularly get 100-150 KBytes/second from various remote locations using various service providers). At that rate, it takes less than 15 minutes to download a 66M (80+ minute) episode file. But it's possible that the through-put just varies with the demand or time of day (and how much YouTube and NetFlix consumption is going on in my domicile).

I think there are better (and cheaper) options to Soundcloud and Dropbox. I'll start looking.

Does your phone not have a podcast app that downloads new episodes in the background and notifies you when they're listenable? It still sounds like the speed your getting is streamable, so if you're downloading to listen immediately, why wait until the whole thing is downloaded to start listening to the beginning?

I would think that either method would work with the speeds you are reporting (the Podcast app on my phone supports both modes).

what sucks is if he get hosting from some cheap providers they might complain that he is using it as a file backup service or for file sharing. (sometimes against the TOS)

it's probably best to just use some free podcast/music/audio host best suited for this task.

I can't decide which I like better, but I alternate between DogCatcher and Podcast Addict. I listen to about 6 or 7 podcasts. I tried subscribing to to your podcast and it takes hours to download them and bottlenecks downloading the others. I just downloaded the first two at work and move them to the phone via USB. It took almost an hour to get the first two. This afternoon (when I posted the comment) I waited almost 40 minutes and there was still 15-20 minutes left to download episodes 3 and 4 so I just left them downloading. I'll move them over tomorrow when I get in. :) It's definately not my conenction because when I cancelled the download in DogCatcher one morning, it download all of my other new shows in like 5 minutes.

I wonder if this "only one download at a time" is a limit of Android or the apps.

Not sure, I know the app store also only downloads one at a time as well.

Right now I'm downloading episode 3 and it's been going for ~25 minutes on my desktop and I've only downloaded ~30MB - I still have 23-27 minutes left (it's going up and down.) It's the only thing I'm uploading/downloading.
