• Rush R40 collection

Rush's R40 concert video collection was recently released. I have mixed feelings about it, but overall I feel like it could have been better. It sounded like it was intended to be a 40-year compliation of Rush concert material, but it only has 5 of their concert videos (A Show Of Hands, Exit...Stage Left, and Grace Under Pressure are missing). I bought the blu-ray version of R40, and while I appreciate videos being available on blu-ray, some of it doesn't look very good IMO. The video quality of the Rush In Rio blu-ray looks pretty bad in spots, as if it was a DVD transfer or could have been a VHS transfer. Some of the other blu-rays (such as Time Machine) do look fairly good though.

The packaging is another thing - It's packaged into basically a large hardback book. I think that makes it awkward to store, as it doesn't fit easily onto a movie shelf. Also, there's a lot of wasted space inside, as each page just serves as a holder for one or two discs. I would have preferred something sized more like a blu-ray multi-disc jewel case.

Also, I bought mine from Amazon.com, and then last night I found out that Best Buy has an exclusive edition with an additional disc. Exclusive editions are cool if you know about them, but it's frustrating when you only find out about them after you've already bought the 'regular' edition somewhere else..

Hm... what's on the additional disc? I wasn't planning on buying this set because I already own all the major components (and yes, Rush in Rio couldn't be put on Blu-ray initially because the HD cameras weren't working or something
    like that).

I saw some of the old live stuff with John Rutsey on youtube. If that's all I'm
missing, then I'll just pass on this set.

The 'standard' edition of this R40 collection (which is sold by most retailers) includes a bonus disc that has misc. live footage of various songs from the 70s to 2013 or so. Best Buy's edition has an additional disc that has a few unreleased songs. There's a full list of the contents of Best Buy's edition here (link shortened by bit.ly):

That appears to be the same bonus disc available fron the rush.com: http://www.rushbackstage.com/blu-ray-rush-40th-anniversary-collectors-box-set.h

They call that disc "R40 Completist".

So yeah... don't buy it from Amazon or you'll miss a lot of cool content. :-) Good to know, thanks,
