Was it CCGMS by any chance? That was my favorite for the C64.

I vaguely remember that one. I've been trying to recall what term I used the most on my C64 bout could only come up with Star Term or something like that. Anyone remember Phone Man 64? I would love to get ahold of that one again. Just fo fun, clearly the boxes won't work anymore.

I almost want to say that "War Games" was the reason I wnated to get a computer in the first place!

It was so funny to sit there and listen to the War dialer cycle through the numbers.. Sometimes you would hear that groggy voice "hheeelloo?" come from the speaker at 3AM while making the loops!! LOL!!!

I had a letter from the phone company sent to me house once (when I was living with my parents) about a complaint. It was an old lady I accidently dialled, twice. I thought a formal letter was a bit much over a couple of phone calls.

Heh, I remember chatting with a friend and suddenly seeing bursts of random characters, and he said it was when his dad was picking up the line to see if he could call out. I thought the modem would just disconnect if that happened, so I guess error correction must have been fairly good at that point.

Nah, with the error correction data flow would just STOP...pause pause pause then continue. Morning dew and showers would wreck havoc with our line for a couple years before the phone company finally took care of it, so I had plenty of experience between that and random pickups. ;)

My first modem was a 1200 with no error correction; someone picking up a phone would cause a decent bout of noise characters.

I think they just didn't disconnect as readily. I remember that too. But I also remember that often, even if the line didn't disconnect, it would sometime just cease to function properly.

I eventually got an Amiga 500 myself. That was probably the best computer ever made, or at least the most ahead of its time upon release.
