• More on Vitamin D

From The Lizard Master@VERT/NITEEYES to All on Sunday, May 24, 2020 19:41:36
Researchers from Trinity College Dublin are calling on the government in Ireland to change recommendations for vitamin D supplements.

A new publication from Dr Eamon Laird and Professor Rose Anne Kenny, School of Medicine, and the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA), in collaboration with Professor Jon Rhodes at University of Liverpool, highlights the association between vitamin D levels and mortality from COVID-19.

The authors of the article, just published in the Irish Medical Journal, analysed all European adult population studies, completed since 1999, which measured vitamin D and compared vitamin D and death rates from COVID-19. The article can be viewed at:

Interesting read. Definitely seems to be a correlation, and a plausible hypothesis that seems to fit the facts.

There are other articles. It definately seems that there could be a benefit. Now, if we are willing to put hundreds of thousands out of work, to save lives, then surely it is also worth people ensuring they are not Vitamin D deficient, if there is a decent chance it could make a difference. If the benefit is small, that is OK, because the risk of not being Vitamin D deficient is very, very small. There is a likely gain for no cost.

Yes, Vitamin D is a cheap and relatively safe thing to try, definitely no harm in checking and supplementing, if needed. Vitamin D is one of the tests that I get in my annual checkup.
