Sad part is people don't see the responsible side of freedom in the
    form of self control.

That's because we've had generations that were indoctrinated by our failed public school systems into thinking that they don't need any self-control because the gov't will be there to take care of them.

I find it a little alarming that so many people I went to school with
(making them around 50 years old) that think that the government's #1 job
is to take care of them. I thought that was something that started in one
of the generations after mine but I guess not.

yeah, exactly. how did they get into this train of thought. the govt isnt supposed to take care of people. it's really sad how people think. and if you disagree with them, you are an enemy. just because you have different opinions. you are evil!

You have different opinions which involve the government not taking care of them and not giving them any freebies. I can see where someone who feels
that way would feel threatened by a different opinion. Some of those folks
I went to school with have a lot on the line should the government move
away from taking care of them.

It was a long, slow process that started before us. My grandpa remembered the Great Depression and WPA. He said that even then, there were people who thought that someone else would take care of them. I suppose that there was always a portion of the population that thought that, but the Left cultured them and let them grow.

I'm reminded of the book "Liars and Outliers" by Bruce Schneier, which is basically a book as to why people "cheat" the system (even if they don't NEED to).

I look at people who work hard to mooch off the public. If they took that energy and applied it to a real job, they'd be prosperous. But instead they choose to "cheat".

... I'd love to, but my patent is pending.
