• News Alert: Rep. Conyers says he's stepping down

    From CNN Breaking News@VERT to no-reply@siteservices.cnn.com on Tuesday, December 05, 2017 08:06:51
Embattled Democratic Rep. John Conyers told a Detroit area radio show that he'll step down from his seat in Congress Tuesday and publicly endorsed his son to replace him once he leaves Capitol Hill.

Conyers, who spoke for the first time since returning to his home district amid allegations of sexual harassment, made the comments on Mildred Gaddis' radio show in Detroit.

"My legacy can't be compromised or diminished in any way by what we're going through now. This too shall pass," he said, calling in from a local hospital.ÿ

Pressure had been mounting for Conyers, who was hospitalized in Michigan late last month, to resign. Members of the Democratic leadership, including Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Jim Clyburn, one of the elder members of the Congressional Black Caucus, all called on Conyers to step down. Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan also called on Conyers to resign.

That's what gets me, neither side is giving up their position, even with the credible stories or proof that these accusations are true. It would seem like these people forget that they are servants to the people, and the certainally act like they are everything.

Judge Roy Moore is very hateful towards these accusors, and he needs to drop out of the race, and Alabamans should write in their Rebulican canidate. Al Frankin needs to step down as well.

I am not happy with a lot of people in government right now, and about the only one that is making any sense is Tim Scott of SC. I am so glad I've voted for Tim Scott, and I will vote for him again.

I agree that's why Trump mentioned draining the swamp numerous of times during the campaign. The problem is that a lot of the politicians won't let go of their place in power; and if they do, there is some form of motive behind it.

Drain the swamp? That'll be nice, but it's going to be one of those "we'll see" thing, just like the wall between the US and Mexico: "we'll see". Sounds nice, but it's probably not going to happen.

The problem was, that Trump wanted to "drain the swamp" and then filled the swamp back up with raw sewage. He appointed people with 0 experience to high level positions. He even appointed people who had been incredibly critical of government organizations, or said that they served no purpose, to the heads of those same organizations.

His cabinet is full of rich people that are completely out of touch with middle class Americans. They don't work for the corporations, because they ARE the corporations. Trump cut out the middle man.

I don't understand how people can be OK with this.

1st off you're full of gas maybe if you research the appointed people you would see most are experienced with the exception of Rick Perry who is a total idiot.
you're like the the rest of the left you fling shit on the wall to see if you can get anything to stick.
Like Maxine Waters going around saying impeach 45 but she just blows gas like you, she has no substance or reasoning as to why she thinks our President should be impeached.
President Trump BTW is totally in touch with us in the middle class, thats why we voted for and elected him.

Betsy DeVos was a horrible pick, designed to dismantle the department of education. She's been a vocal opponent of public education for decades.

Steven Mnuchin never served in a governmental capacity, and had no experience with macroeconomics.

Scott Pruitt vocally said he despised the EPA, has sued it multiple times over its attempts to protect the environment in Oklahoma, and he refuses to admit global climate change is an actual thing.

Michael Flynn - well, we know what happened with that pick.

Andrew Puzder was the CEO of a fast food company. He opposes, not just raising the minimum wage, but a minimum wage all together. He also opposes paying overtime pay to certain workers when they've worked more than 40 hours per week, and, in his position as CEO of CKE (Hardee's), paid out $20 million in lawsuits over overtime rule violations. What a great guy to have in charge of safeguarding Workers' rights.

Rex Tillerson had 0 diplomatic experience, but he went to a few countries with oil, I guess. A wonderful pick for our Chief Diplomat.

Oh, and Ben Carson lived in house once, so I guess that made him qualified to run the department of Housing and Urban Development. (It didn't/doesn't)

you're like the the rest of the left you fling shit on the wall to see if you can get anything to stick.

Have you seen Trump's Twitter feed? I think you're projecting.

Like Maxine Waters going around saying impeach 45 but she just blows gas like you, she has no substance or reasoning as to why she thinks our President should be impeached.

The noose is tightening. Don Jr.'s testimony was pretty damaging, each week more e-mails come out supporting the idea that Trump colluded with Russia. It's possible Pence may go down with him when it's all said and done. I'm not sure if Paul Ryan as president would be any better, though.

President Trump BTW is totally in touch with us in the middle class, thats why we voted for and elected him.
AHAHHAHAHAHAH Have you read the tax bill that the Senate/congress just passed?

Is that the only negative thimg that you found on Dr. Carson? Even then, this point excluded the fact that he grew up poor. Maybe, he has some great ideas on how to improve the department, using his personal experience.

I agree that Trump's tweets are mud sligging a good majority of the time. However, some of it has a good point and some of it is just uncalled for.

How, exactly, this tax reform a benefit to tge middle class? I keep hearing different points from conservatives that it's not. This tax reform is actually more beneficial for the poor, little effect to the middle class, and the opposite effect in the rich (actually paying more in taxes). The only thing taxes are getting cut is the corporate tax. That's great, which will help the economy a little bit.

I apologize, but thia so-called tax reform is a joke. It came across as a compromise between the Democrates and the Rebulicans (most likely the RINOs), at best.

Trickle down economics DO NOT WORK. It has never worked. The problem is, the coffers of the people you're pouring the money into don't ever overflow, they just get bigger.

The Democrats had nothing to do with it. it is 100% GOP and their donors. The Dems fought like hell to stop it, but back room dealing and late night voting passed the thing.

The "Tax reform" bill even breaks a slew of promises Trump made, and is going to increase the deficit by over $1 Trillion. So much for the party of fiscial responsibility.

What are the other faults of Dr. Carson?

Trickle down economics DO NOT WORK. It has never worked. The problem is, th coffers of the people you're pouring the money into don't ever overflow, the just get bigger.

Some corporations that are irresponsible, yes. Some that are respsonsible, no. Corporate tax cuts should allow for businesses to invest more into themselves (expanding R&D, buying more needed resources, hiring more needed staff). If corporations pocket that money for themselves, that's on them and it will show itself at some point.

The Democrats had nothing to do with it. it is 100% GOP and their donors. T Dems fought like hell to stop it, but back room dealing and late night votin passed the thing.

The Democrats are the ones that's crying "end of the world" and "death on the poor" over this tax reform. Is it really a secret dealing, or do they just not show up and continue to fight this bill?

I agree that the Republican party has been fiscally irresponsible, and they aren't doing anything about. Democrats are just as guilty by going along with the debt ceiling and increasing taxes across the board, making lives more difficult. Both parties are at fault for that.

Truth be told, I'm not thrilled with most of our current politicans, and (as I have said before) most to seem to have forgotten their roles. And a lot of citizens are just sitting back and going, "oh well, that's politics... they don't care about us."
