If you want to know what Marxism is about you need to understand history. Capitalism replaced FEUDALISM. Back in the good old days, you were a PROGRESSIVE if you thought capitalism was a better system than hereditary lords and barons owning you, taxing your subsistence farms, and fucking your wife whenever they wanted. Clear? Feudalism = bad. People are all hung up on fascism, but you should be more worried about going backwards to Feudalism. I think every point on the modern political spectrum can at least agree that THAT WOULD BE WORSE.

Can we agree on that? If you want to go back to feudalism, just say so. Maybe you're a billionaire already and think it will be YOU owning peasants and doing whatever you want with them, so it'll turn out ok...

The next thing you need to know about is SURPLUS VALUE. Capitalism isn't permanently sustainable because of SURPLUS VALUE.

Basically, let's say you've worked 40 hours. Whatever your boss is paying you for those hours, it is LESS than what they're actually worth. The money that your labor brings to the company, what it's actually worth, is MORE than what they pay you for it, or they wouldn't make a profit. They are profiting off your labor, just sitting there. Is that fair? No. In fact, they'll get richer, and you'll get poorer, because the richer they get the more desperate the working people get and the less they'll be willing to work for. This is EXACTLY why an auto plant in Detroit paid $35-$50 an hour and now hire temp workers part time for probably about $14. EXACTLY why. Surplus labor.

Eventually, they can pay you almost nothing. They have everything, workers have nothing, no freedom, and they HAVE NO CHOICE but to revolt to save themselves and their families from their greedy asshole bosses that just treat them like something in between farm animals and factory machines. That's the revolution, in Marxist terms. NEVERMIND what you think you know about the Soviet Union, they were doing their own thing at a time when most people were farmers anyway and it doesn't apply to our situation.
