Plastic bullets are used by some law-enforcement agencies... I think Israel
has used them, and some of the US armed forces issued them to their MPs
during Gulf War I. That said, they are sometimes lethal.

They also sometimes use bean-bag guns which can knock people over... but

President Donald Trump landed in Israel [1]on Monday for the second leg of his first foreign trip as president where he will tackle the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, address regional security issues and reaffirm the US' commitment to its alliance with Israel.

The visit is the second of three stops on the President's schedule aimed at highlighting the importance of the world's three largest monotheistic religions. He arrived in Israel after visiting Saudi Arabia, home to the two holiest sites in Islam, and will next head to the Vatican, home of the Catholic Church.

US President Donald Trump had a day of meetings and visits to holy sites in Israel, the second stop on his overseas trip.

In Jerusalem, he became the first sitting US president to visit the Western Wall[1], one of Judaism's holiest sites. Trump left a note at the wall. ÿ

After meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the President said achieving peace in the Middle East is "one of the toughest deals of all," but he had a feeling "we're going to get there eventually ... I hope."[2] Netanyahu said for the first time in his life he sees "a real hope for change."

Ahead of his talks with Netanyahu, Trump sought to rebut claims that he had damaged Israeli intelligence capabilities by revealing highly classified information to Russian officials in the Oval Office earlier this month. "Just so you understand, I never mentioned the word or the name Israel," he said.[3]

The accusations, however, never suggested that Trump told his Russian visitors that the information came from Israel. Instead, the information Trump revealed is thought to have been so specific that its origin was clear.

Earlier in the day, the President and first lady visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and Trump held talks with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin.

After meeting with Muslim leaders in Saudi Arabia and visiting sacred sites in Jerusalem, President Donald Trump's tour of world religions concluded Wednesday at the Vatican, the Catholic Church's holy headquarters.

There, at the Apostolic Palace, Trump met with Pope Francis -- finally[1].

It's a meeting millions have been waiting for, an encounter between two of the world's most intriguing and complex characters: The holy man in white who preaches good news to the poor and the brash businessman in the dark suit who embodies American extravagance.

After months of talking -- and tweeting -- past one another, and a very public spat over international borders, the Pope and President met at last, with nary a barrier between them.

The Republican candidate in Montana's special congressional election allegedly body slammed a reporter[1] and broke his glasses on Wednesday night, according to an audio recording of the event and eyewitness accounts.

The altercation, which took place at Greg Gianforte's campaign headquarters in Bozeman, Montana, took place the night before the state's special election.

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office said it was conducting an ongoing investigation into "allegations of an assault involving Greg Gianforte," but didn't provide further details.

Ben Jacobs, a political reporter for the Guardian, said he had been asking Gianforte about the Republican healthcare plan when the candidate "body slammed" him and began shouting, "Get the hell out of here."

Then-FBI Director James Comey knew that a critical piece of information relating to the investigation into Hillary Clinton's email was fake -- created by Russian intelligence -- but he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself[1], according to multiple officials with knowledge of the process.

As a result, Comey acted unilaterally last summer to publicly declare the investigation over -- without consulting then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch -- while at the same time stating that Clinton had been "extremely careless" in her handling of classified information. His press conference caused a firestorm of controversy and drew criticism from both Democrats and Republicans.

Comey's actions, based on what he knew was Russian disinformation, offer a stark example of the way Russian interference impacted the decisions of the highest-level US officials during the 2016 campaign.

Southern rock pioneer Gregg Allman,[1] the founding member of the Allman Brothers Band, has died at 69.

Allman overcame family tragedy, drug addiction and health problems to become a grizzled elder statesman for the music he loved.

ÿAllman died at his home in Savannah, Georgia, according to a statement posted to his official website. The statement says Allman had struggled with many health issues over the past several years. Allman's longtime manager said, "I have lost a dear friend and the world has lost a brilliant pioneer in music."

The source said that Flynn's lawyers alerted the intelligence committee Tuesday that he would respond to the two subpoenas sent to his businesses and would also provide personal documents sought via a separate subpoena after Senate investigators narrowed the scope of the request.

The U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 4.3% last month,[1] the lowest in 16 years, the Labor Department said Friday.

Employers added 138,000 jobs, weaker than economists expected, and unemployment declined in part because fewer people were looking for work. Job gains for March and April were revised lower.

Still, the 4.3% unemployment rate is the lowest since May 2001. It marked the 21st consecutive month that unemployment has been at or below 5%.

President Donald Trump does believe in climate change and that humans have a role in it, US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley told CNN's Jake Tapper in an interview on "State of the Union."[1]

"President Trump believes the climate is changing and he believes pollutants are part of the equation," Haley said Saturday, answering a central question in the wake of his decision to withdraw the country from the Paris climate accord.

Trump "knows that it's changing and that the US has to be responsible for it and that's what we're going to do," she continued, adding that withdrawing from the Paris agreement won't change the country's commitment to curbing climate change.

"Just because the US got out of a club doesn't mean we aren't going to care about the environment," she said.

The full interview will air Sunday on "State of the Union" at 9 a.m. and noon ET.

Haley's comments are the closest acknowledgment by an administration official since Trump took office that the President -- who has called climate change a "hoax" on multiple occasions -- believes global warming is occurring and humanity has a role in it. When asked in November by The New York Times if he believed human activity was connected to climate change, Trump acknowledged that there is "some connectivity."

President Trump, in a series of early-morning tweets, referred to his executive order on immigration as a "travel ban"[1] and said his Justice Department should not have submitted a "watered down, politically correct version" to the Supreme Court.

Trump's suggestion that changes to the ban -- which, among other things, temporarily restricts travel to the US from several Muslim-majority countries -- were due to political correctness could hamper his administration's legal argument that the executive order did not target Muslims. As a candidate, Trump called for a "total and complete shutdown" of Muslim immigration to the United States.

At times, the Trump administration has insisted the executive order is not a "travel ban," though the President himself has referred to it as such, using the term "travel ban" on Twitter in early February.

Trump revived his call for the ban shortly after news broke of the weekend's terror attacks in London.

The Spanish tennis player crushed Swiss Stan Wawrinka at Roland Garros 6-2 6-3 6-1 after three years without a Grand Slam win. Nadal withdrew from last year's French Open in the tournament's first week after a wrist injury and for several years he has suffered from chronic knee issues.ÿ

Sunday's victory is Nadal's 15th overall tournament win, putting him just three championships behind Roger Federer.[2]

NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman is expected to arrive in North Korea Tuesday[1], according to two officials in that country who spoke to CNN.

CNN spotted Rodman[2] at Beijing International Airport, where he declined to answer questions. Rodman would be arriving in Pyongyang at a time of heightened tension between Washington and Pyongyang[3], which is currently detaining four Americans[4].ÿ

It's unclear what the purpose of Rodman's visit to the secretive country could be, but the eccentric former basketball player -- and a former contestant on Donald Trump's pre-presidency reality TV show "Celebrity Apprentice" -- is one of the only Americans to have met current North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un.

When asked by CNN journalists in Pyongyang, unnamed North Korean officials confirmed that Rodman is expected to arrive in Pyongyang Tuesday. They gave no further details.

Kevin Durant[1] joined the Golden State Warriors to win his first NBA championship[2].

Mission accomplished -- and he has been named NBA Finals MVP.ÿ

The Warriors have defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers 129-120 in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, clinching their second title in three years and their fifth in team history.

This was the first time in NBA history the same two teams met in the NBA Finals for a third straight time. The Warriors won the title in 2015 in six games, while the Cavaliers dramatically won in 2016 in seven, becoming the first team in NBA history to win a series trailing 3-1.

Ed Gillespie[1] was expected to hold onto a narrow lead to win the Republican nomination for Virginia governor in his party's primary election, CNN projected.

On the Democratic side, Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is on track to win the nomination for Virginia governor, CNN has projected.

Gillespie's tight victory over Prince William County Board of Supervisors chair Corey Stewart came as a major surprise. Observers initially expected it to be an easy win for Gillespie, a former chairman of the Republican National Committee. Frank Wagner, a senator in the commonwealth's legislature, trailed in third place.

Meanwhile, Northam's win capped off fierce competition on the Democratic side, where he faced off against former congressman Tom Perriello. And turnout in the Democratic primary far outpaced the Republican side.

In a statement congratulating Northam, outgoing Democratic Gov. Terry McAuliffe linked the Republican field to President Donald Trump.

Tuesday's elections marked the first time both parties held contests on the same day in the commonwealth's history.

A Massachusetts judge found Michelle Carter, 20, guilty of involuntary manslaughter[1] in the 2014 death of her boyfriend, who poisoned himself by inhaling carbon monoxide in his pickup truck.

Prosecutors had said she sent Conrad Roy III, 18, numerous text messages urging him to commit suicide.

The ruling could set legal precedent for whether it's a crime to tell someone to commit suicide. It may also spur lawmakers to codify such behavior as criminal.

Involuntary Manslaughter? she "volunteered" all of her brainwashing texts to make sure hew went through with this plan. his mind seemed to be in a very week state, and he "may" have went on with this some time in the future anyway, but I just don't understand what kind of evil could be flowing through this girl to do this.. sickening.

The judge in the Bill Cosby trial declared a mistrial[1] Saturday after the jury failed to reach a verdict in the case. The jurors -- five women and seven men -- were unable to come to a unanimous decision in a courtroom battle closely watched by the public as well as dozens of women who have accused Cosby of similar misconduct in the past. Cosby faced three charges of aggravated indecent assault.

Here are the latest developments following the mistrial:

ù Prosecutors announced they will retry the case.

ù A spokeswoman for the comedian read a statement from his wife, Camille Cosby, who criticized prosecutors, the judge and the media.

ù Attorney Gloria Allred, who represents many of Cosby's accusers, said she hopes the court will allow other witnesses to testify at the next trial. "If the court allows more accusers to testify ... it might make a difference. In other words, it's too early to celebrate Mr. Cosby."

Iran says it launched missiles into Syria, targeting ISIS fighters in retaliation for two deadly attacks that occurred in Tehran on June 7th.[1]

The missile strikes, which took place on Saturday, are a major escalation in Iran's role in Syria. This is the first time Iran has fired missiles into Syria since the Arab country descended into a civil war in 2011.

The strikes come as ISIS claimed responsibility for two June 7th attacks in Tehran[2] that targeted Iran's Parliament building and a shrine dedicated to the republic's revolutionary founder Ayatollah Khomeini.

It was the first time that ISIS, which is fighting Iranian-backed militias in Syria, has claimed responsibility for an attack in Iran.

Iran's military had vowed revenge for the attacks that killed 12 people.

An armed man who deliberately rammed his car into a police van[1] in Paris on Monday has been taken down by officers and is dead, French authorities said.

The incident took place on the iconic Champs-Elysees boulevard in central Paris, the latest attack this year against security forces in the French capital.

Gerard Collomb, France's interior minister, told reporters the attacker's car contained weapons and explosives.

"Enough to allow him to blow up this car," Collomb said.

No police officers or passersby were wounded, an Interior Ministry spokesman said.

The small white car caught on fire after the collision with the mobile police unit.

It's the fifth time in four months that security forces have been attacked in Paris.

Otto Warmbier, the American college student who returned home last week in a coma after 17 months of detention in North Korea, died Monday afternoon,[1] his family said in a statement.

"It is our sad duty to report that our son, Otto Warmbier, has completed his journey home."

Warmbier was surrounded by his family when he died at 2:20 p.m., the statement said.

"Unfortunately, the awful torturous mistreatment our son received at the hands of the North Koreans ensured that no other outcome was possible beyond the sad one we experienced today."

Warmbier went to North Korea in the spring of 2016[2] with the Young Pioneer Tours travel group, a company that takes participants to places they wouldn't normally go.

The trip was supposed to last five days. But as he tried to depart from Pyongyang's airport, Warmbier was stopped by security.

According to the North Korean government, he was detained because he had sneaked onto a restricted floor of his hotel and had stolen a political poster. He later confessed to the crime, but it's not known if the confession was voluntary.

Warmbier was sentenced to 15 years of hard labor and spent 17 months in North Korea before being released.

He arrived home June 13 suffering from significant brain damage, unable to respond to verbal communication.ÿ

Saudi Arabia's king deposed the sitting crown prince and replaced him with Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz[1], the deputy crown prince, the state news agency reported.

Prince Mohammed will continue in his role as minister of defense, according to the royal decree cited by state media.

Prince Mohammed visited the US in March, where he had lunch at the White House in the highest level meeting at the time between Saudi Arabia and US President Donald Trump.

Prince Mohammed is spearheading the kingdom's attempts to wean itself off oil as part of an economic strategy called Vision 2030 announced last year. He's also defense minister and son of King Salman.

Travis Kalanick[1] has resigned as the chief executive of Uber, the ride-hailing startup he co-founded and turned into a global tech giant.

Kalanick had already taken leave from the company last week following the death of his mother in a boating accident.

"I love Uber more than anything in the world and at this difficult moment in my personal life I have accepted the investors request to step aside so that Uber can go back to building rather than be distracted with another fight," Kalanick said in a statement late Tuesday, according to an Uber spokesperson.ÿ

Prince Philip, the 95-year-old husband of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, was hospitalized as a "precautionary measure," Buckingham Palace has toldÿCNN. [1]

The Prince, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, was being treated at London's King Edward VII Hospital for an infection arising from a pre-existing condition.

"Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the State Opening of Parliament and Royal Ascot," Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

The FBI is investigating the stabbing of a police officer at a Flint, Michigan, airport on Wednesday "as an act of terrorism,"[1] officials said.

The suspect, Amor Ftouhi, a 50-year-old native of Canada, has been charged with violence at an international airport, FBI Special Agent David Gelios said. Ftouhi is accused of stabbing Lt. Jeff Neville.

Ftouhi entered the United States legally through Lake Champlain, New York, on June 16 and made his way to Bishop International Airport, where he arrived Wednesday, Gelios said.

Two of the nation's top intelligence officials[1] told Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team and Senate investigators, in separate meetings last week, that President Donald Trump suggested they say publicly there was no collusion between his campaign and the Russians, according to multiple sources.

Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and National Security Agency Director Adm. Mike Rogers described their interactions with the President about the Russia investigation as odd and uncomfortable, but said they did not believe the President gave them orders to interfere, according to multiple sources familiar with their accounts.

Sources say both men went further than they did in June 7 public hearings, when they provided little detail about the interactions.

As President Donald Trump lashes out at former President Barack Obama for failing to take a harder line against Russia for election meddling, Trump's own advisers are struggling to convince him that Russia still poses a threat,[1] according to multiple senior administration officials.

"I just heard today for the first time that Obama knew about Russia a long time before the election, and he did nothing about it," Trump told Fox News in an interview that aired Sunday. "To me -- in other words -- the question is, if he had the information, why didn't he do something about it? He should have done something about it."

But the Trump administration has taken no public steps to punish Russia for its interference in the 2016 election. Multiple senior administration officials said there are few signs the President is devoting his time or attention to the ongoing election-related cyber threat from Russia.

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski claim President Trump and his White House[1] used the possibility of a negative story in the National Enquirer to threaten them.

But President Trump disputes it. "FAKE NEWS," he tweeted during the show Friday morning.

The editor in charge of the Enquirer, Dylan Howard, said "we have no knowledge of any discussions between the White House and Joe and Mika about our story, and absolutely no involvement in those discussions."

Meanwhile, Scarborough says he has proof of the White House threats -- "I have texts from your top aides and phone records."

Scarborough and Brzezinski are essentially alleging a form of blackmail.

The accusation came during a wider discussion about the president's offensive tweets targeting the co-hosts.[2]

Apparently, they are real names. I'm more hung up on the fact that CNN doesn't say what the tweet was, just the fact that it's sexist. It would appear that there was an assumption that we all follow Donald Trump on Twitter, and (personally) I am not interested in following him on Twitter. I wasn't a fan of Trump during the primaries, but he was a better option during the general election.

I saw this tweet that they reported on, and it was offensive and it never should have been said. Now, CNN and MSNBC needs to focus on more important things than the crap Trump tweets and move on with life.

He shouldn't have tweeted anything in the first place. CNN and MSNBC shouldn't have said anything either, and Trump shouldn't have tweeted further on the matter, and CNN and MSNBC should have moved on to more important things.

Case in point, Trump should have keep his opinions of the show a private matter, not public. CNN and MSNBC is just reacting and making the issue worse by dragging it out.

North Korea has fired an unidentified ballistic missile from North Pyong'an Province that jetted into waters east of the Korean Peninsula[1], according to South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The projectile may have landed in Japan's Exclusive Economic Zone, which extends 200 nautical miles from its coastline, official from Japan's Ministry of Defense told CNN.

The launch comes just after President Donald Trump spoke to the leaders of both China and Japan[2], two important regional actors in the ongoing standoff with Pyongyang over its nuclear ambitions.

That's a tough question to answer. I think it's both. I have been wondering and thinking about how technology either brought out more idioticy and weirdness or just changed people's personality to be more self-centered. Might be both.

It's just amazing how people will say one thing in person and post another on the Internet. Personally, I tried to be consistent in both my Internet and in-person personallity. It really does matter what you say or do online because it's now archived and searchable. I try to be careful with what I post online because it is a reflection on me and potiential employers can find me easly. Same thing with how I act in person as well.

Rep. Steve Scalise[1] has been readmitted to the intensive care unit "due to new concerns for infection," a statement from his office said.

His condition is listed as serious, according to the statement.

Scalise, the Republican House majority whip who represents Louisiana, was critically injured during a shooting by a lone gunman at the GOP baseball team's practice for a charity game June 14.

He had been released from the MedStar Washington Hospital Center's intensive care unit less than two weeks ago.

Another update is expected Thursday, according to his office.ÿ

Russian spies are ramping up their intelligence-gathering efforts in the US, according to current and former US intelligence officials who say they have noticed an increase since the election.[1]

The officials say they believe one of the biggest US adversaries feels emboldened by the lack of a significant retaliatory response from both the Trump and Obama administrations.

"Russians have maintained an aggressive collection posture in the US, and their success in election meddling has not deterred them," said a former senior intelligence official familiar with Trump administration efforts.

A ceasefire that was brokered by the US, Russia and Jordan goes into effect in southwest Syria.[1]

The White House has called the de-escalation zone a "priority."

The plan was previously announced after a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G20 summit.

Iraq's prime minister tweeted Sunday that he has arrived in the "liberated city of Mosul" [1]and "congratulates the heroic fighters and the Iraqi people in achieving this great victory."

However, state TV reported that ISIS militants are still holding out in one neighborhood.

Mosul is Iraq's biggest cityÿoutside of Baghdad, and gaining control of the city was one of ISIS' most significant strategic wins. When the terror group seized Mosul in June 2014, it also took control of more that 2.5 million people and subjected some to horrors.

What I am more annoyed about, when I saw this, is the fact that they NEVER said it was Palestinians that shot the two Israeli cops, nor ever mentioned as what the possible motive was.

My wife pays more attention to Israel news (considering she can read and speak Hebrew) than I do (I know how to say a few words, but don't know how to read or write Hebrew); and she was able to find out more about it than I was. Then I heard about it on Fox News.

Yea, I get our own is being shot here and it doesn't get covered, but it's just CNN being who they are: pickers and choosers of facts.

see now, that make it more relevant and sheds more light on the issues. that would ne like posting that foreign nationals came over the border and murdered two of our own..

thats what news should be.. they pick and choose what they want to report on.

Hours after the Senate was gaveled back into session, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was handed devastating news Monday evening: Two more defections on his health care bill[1] that could doom the entire effort for the foreseeable future.

The dramatic simultaneous announcement from Sens. Jerry Moran of Kansas and Mike Lee of Utah means McConnell officially does not have the votes to even begin debate on his legislation to overhaul Obamacare.

In announcing their opposition to the bill, Moran and Lee said they would vote "no" on the motion to proceed -- a vote that McConnell had hoped to hold this week but was already forced to postpone due to Arizona Sen. John McCain's absence from Washington.

"We should not put our stamp of approval on bad policy. Furthermore, if we leave the federal government in control of everyday healthcare decisions, it is more likely that our healthcare system will devolve into a single-payer system, which would require a massive federal spending increase," Moran said in a statement.

In a stark sign of just how grave his concerns are about the bill, Moran went as far as to call for a "fresh" start and an "open legislative process."

Prior to Monday, there were two other Senate Republicans who had said they would vote against the revised health care bill: Sens. Rand Paul of Kentucky and Susan Collins of Maine. This meant McConnell could not afford even one more opposing senator.

President Trump and Vladimir Putin spoke for a second time at the G20 summit in a previously undisclosed discussion, the White House confirmed on Tuesday.[1]

A senior White House official told CNN the talk lasted "nearly an hour."

In a statement, the White House called the conversation "brief" and added that Trump spoke with Putin through Russia's translator.

The discussion came after their scheduled, two-hour-long bilateral meeting earlier in the day.

The White House sought to downplay the significance of the discussion.

"It is not merely perfectly normal, it is part of a president's duties, to interact with world leaders," the White House statement said.

Sen. John McCain[1], 80, has been diagnosed with a primary glioblastoma, a type of brain tumor, Mayo Clinic doctors directly involved in the senator's care told CNN exclusively.

The doctors spoke directly to CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta, a practicing neurosurgeon.

The senator underwent surgery to remove a blood clot on Friday at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Phoenix. Lab results from that surgery confirmed the presence of glioblastoma associated with the blood clot.

Glioblastoma is a particularly aggressive tumor that forms in the tissue of the brain and spinal cord, according to the American Brain Tumor Association.

A pathologist was in the operating room during the procedure, a minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision, said his doctor, who added that the surgery lasted about three to four hours. Post-surgical brain scans show the tissue causing concern has been completely removed.

McCain is recovering "amazingly well," according to a statement from his office.

A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS[1] finds a growing share of Americans want to see the GOP abandon its effort to repeal and replace the 2010 health care law known as Obamacare, as majorities across party lines want congressional Republicans to aim for a bill with bipartisan support.

Overall, 35% in the poll say they'd like President Donald Trump and the Republicans in Congress to give up their plans for repealing and replacing Obamacare, up from 23% who said the same in a March survey.

Read the complete CNN/SSRS poll here

A majority still favor some form of repeal (34% would prefer repeal with replacement at the same time, and 18% favor repeal regardless of whether the law is replaced at the same time). The share in favor of repeal without replacement has held roughly steady since March; it remains the least popular option.

But public preferences are shifting away from repealing the law and enacting replacements concurrently (down from 59% in March), and more now say they're unsure how they want Republican leaders to proceed (13% say so in the new poll).

Can you be a Senator and have brain cancer? Maybe he'll lose his job and have to buy insurance on the private market with a preexisting condition.

I feel sorry for him, human being to human being, but I can't be the only one thinking "instant karma".

Attorney General Jeff Sessions met with the Russian Ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak to discuss Trump campaign matters during the 2016 presidential election, according to US intelligence intercepts, The Washington Postÿreports.

According to the Post, Kislyak told his superiors in Moscow about two conversations he had with Sessions, which included a discussion on policy issues important to the Kremlin. Sessions was a foreign policy adviser to Trump and major campaign supporter at the time.

Sessions originally never disclosed any interactions he had with Kislyak, but a meeting first came to light in March when the Postÿreportedÿthat he met with Kislyak at an event during the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Sessions met with Kislyak for a second time during the presidential campaign, this time in his Senate office in Washington. This meeting, in September, also wasn't publicly known until the Postÿreportedÿabout it in March.

Sessions did notÿdiscloseÿeither meeting when he applied for his security clearance. He also did not mention it when he was asked about contact with Russians during his Senate confirmation hearings earlier this year. Sessions denied any campaign-related meetings with Russians at the confirmation hearings,ÿsaying, "I did not have communications with the Russians."ÿ

Spieth, 23, overcame a rocky start, shooting a 69 to finish 12-under at the 146th Open at Royal Birkdale.

Spieth now has won three of golf's top titles, having won the Masters in 2015 followed two months later by the US Open. He heads into next month's PGA Championship looking to become just the sixth golfer in history to achieve a career Grand Slam.

In an 11-page statement released Monday ahead of his closed-door interview with Senate intelligence committee staff, Kushner offers his first public accounting of what he says are his four meetings with Russians during the 2016 campaign and transition, offering previously undisclosed details of those meetings. Kushner insists in the letter that he discussed nothing improper during those meetings, which include two encounters with the Russian ambassador in Washington, a meeting with the head of a Russian state-owned bank and the June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer and others that was set up by Kushner's brother-in-law, Donald Trump Jr.

Authorities in Australia foiled a terror plot to bring down an airplane[1] and arrested four men Saturday, Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull announced at a news conference in Sydney.

Police said it was an Islamist-inspired plot, but they did not link the plan to a specific terrorist group.

Australian Federal Police Commissioner Andrew Colvin said officers became aware people in Sydney were allegedly planning to carry out a terrorist attack using an improvised device.

Turnbull said it was an elaborate conspiracy. Police did not specify the date or location of the threat.

In a remarkable news conference in the lobby of Trump Tower, President Donald Trump blamed the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, Saturday on both sides of the conflict[1], equating the white supremacists on one side with the "alt-left" on the other side.

"I think there is blame on both sides," he said.

"What about the alt-left that came charging at, as you say, the alt-right, do they have any semblance of guilt?" Trump said. "What about the fact they came charging with clubs in hands, swinging clubs, do they have any problem, I think they do."

He added: "You had a group on one side that was bad and you had a group on the other side that was also very violent. nobody wants to say it, but I will say it right now."

Trump defended his 48-hour delay in denouncing white supremacists, arguing that he took his time because he didn't know the facts.

Millions of people are forecast to flock to the very narrow swath -- 70 miles wide -- that today's solar eclipse will travel across the US[1].

"This will be like Woodstock 200 times over -- but across the whole country," said Alex Young, solar scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center.

The Federal Highway Administration is calling this a "planned special event for which there has been no recent precedent in the United States."

The moon, which many of us often take for granted, will quite literally have its day in the spotlight. Science geeks have been counting down to the millisecond for today's eclipse.

Professional photographers and amateur astronomers have bought and tested special solar filters for their cameras.

Even the surfers at surfline.com have gone along the Oregon coast and cleaned the lenses off their surf cameras so they can catch the first glimpses of the moon's shadow reaching the western shore.

    Now, the day is here.

"The hair on the back of your neck is going to stand up, and you are going to feel different things as the eclipse reaches totality. It's been described as peaceful, spiritual, exhilarating, shocking," said Brian Carlstrom, deputy associate director of the National Park Service Natural Resource Stewardship and Science Directorate.

If you don't believe, stop, watch and listen.

James Clapper, the former national intelligence director, questioned President Trump's fitness for office [1]after the President's campaign rally in Phoenix on Tuesday.

Clapper, talking with CNN's Don Lemon after Trump's speech, also expressed concern about the President's access to nuclear codes.

During the speech, Trump defended his responses to the Charlottesville attack[2], but omitted that he blamed the clashes on "many sides."

Trump spent roughly 15 minutes near the beginning of his remarks going through each of the three public statements he made in response to the violence at the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville that left one counterprotester dead. In retelling his remarks, Trump didn't include his reference to "many sides" in his response on the day of the violence and his reference to "both sides" last Tuesday, comments seen as equating neo-Nazis with counterprotesters.

Trump also hinted he could pardon Joe Arpaio[3], the controversial former Maricopa County sheriff, amid reports the President is planning to pardon him for his conviction on criminal contempt charges.

"I'll make a prediction: I think he's going to be just fine, OK?" Trump said. "But I won't do it tonight because I don't want to cause any controversy. But Sheriff Joe should feel good."

Harvey[1] has strengthened to a Category 2 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph, the National Weather Service says.

Highways in Texas filled with cars Thursday into the night as coastal residents made their way north and out of the path of a hurricane that forecasters say will bring "life-threatening" amounts of rain.ÿ

Some areas could get as many as 35 inches of rain from Hurricane Harvey and many will get more than a foot, forecasters from the National Hurricane Center say.ÿ

Harvey is rapidly becoming more powerful and is forecast to become a Category 3 hurricane with winds of at least 111 mph by the time it hits the middle Texas coast late Friday or early Saturday, the hurricane center says.

After hitting Corpus Christi, the storm is expected to stall over the state, forecasters say.

In a result that shocked few, Floyd Mayweather[1] defeated Conor McGregor[2] by technical knockout at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The only certainty of this fight was that it would be a spectacle not seen before.

Two different sports worlds collided into a 12-round junior middleweight boxing match: Mayweather, considered one of the best defensive boxers of all time, coming out of retirement at age 40 seeking to become the first boxer to reach 50 fights undefeated. McGregor, 29, is the current UFC lightweight champion and the most exciting draw in mixed martial arts today -- but it was his first professional boxing match.

It was billed as the first boxing-UFC crossover bout in history.

Kenya's Supreme Court[1] has ordered a rerun of the country's contentious presidential election, after a legal challenge by the opposition.

Four out of six judges upheld a petition filed by opposition candidate Raila Odinga, who claimed the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta was fraudulent.

"The presidential election was not conducted in accordance with constitution, rendering the declared results invalid null and void," Chief Justice David Maraga said, ordering fresh elections within 60 days.

The court agreed with opposition arguments that the electoral commission had committed irregularities that invalidated the poll.

North Korea's regime has "succeeded in making a more developed nuke" and fitted it to a new intercontinental ballistic missile[1], according to the country's state news agency.

There was no independent confirmation of the claims.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un watched the process at the country's Nuclear Weapons Institute, KCNA reported.

This week, North Korea launched an intermediate-range missile that flew over Japan, further exacerbating tensions in the region and with the United States.

President Donald Trump got a second chance at the post-natural disaster presidential visit, embracing the role of "comforter in chief" on Saturday[1] in a multistop tour of areas hard-hit by Harvey.

On Tuesday Trump visited Texas, where he touted the size of the crowd that greeted him while failing to mention the storm's victims, leaving critics and even some allies saying he failed to demonstrate the empathy and compassion presidents are expected to display during these visits.

On Saturday Trump returned, and he and first lady Melania Trump handed out boxed lunches. The President also shared hugs and shook hands with victims and volunteers, including many children.

Later in Louisiana, Trump met with members of the Cajun Navy volunteer rescue group.

o At least 50 people have died[2] from the storm, which first made landfall a week ago.
o Beaumont, Texas, is still dealing with floods well above record stage and an interruption of water service that stretched into a third day[3].
o Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner has ordered nearly 300 west Houston residents who've stayed in flooded homes to evacuate[4].
o Up to 12,000 students will have to temporarily attend new schools[5] when classes start on September 11, the Houston Independent School District said.

North Korea claims to have successfully tested a hydrogen bomb,[1] the country's sixth-ever test of a nuclear weapon and first since US President Donald Trump took office.

The test was a "perfect success" and the final step in attaining "state nuclear force," long-time news anchor Ri Chun Hee said in a televised announcement Sunday.

The news report claimed the weapon was designed to fit atop an intercontinental ballistic missile, and follows two successful tests of the long-range missile in July.

Experts say it is nearly impossible to verify with certainty Pyongyang's claim that it detonated a hydrogen bomb, which is also known as a thermonuclear weapon, or whether it can actually be used successfully on a missile. Thermonuclear weapons typically use a fission explosion to create a fusion reaction, which is far more powerful than a fission reaction.

The South Korean President's chief security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, said South Korea will seek diplomatic measures to "completely isolate" its northern neighbor.

China, North Korea's only real ally and patron, said its neighbor "disregarded universal opposition of the international community" by conducting the test."

President Donald Trump is expected to end a program[1] that protected undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children -- so-called "Dreamers" -- from deportation, four sources familiar with the decision told CNN.

Two of the sources said the plan is to have a six-month delay in any action regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to allow Congress time to pass a fix through legislation that would allow the undocumented immigrants to stay in the country.

The expected move -- which comes after weeks of White House deliberations about what to do in response to an ultimatum from 10 state attorneys general led by Texas -- would satisfy Trump's base but upend the lives of nearly 800,000 people who were working and studying in the US. The DACA program, which gave qualified applicants protections from deportation, is popular among Democrats and moderate Republicans, many of whom have introduced legislation in Congress to try to protect the population permanently.

The sources said the expected decision to end the program with a six-month delay reflects the President's thinking as of Sunday night.

Officials have sent conflicting signals at times in the past as to what the final decision on the program's fate would be.

Several of the sources cautioned the decision would not be final until it is announced, which the White House has said will be Tuesday.

Hurricane Irma hammered a string of northeast Caribbean islands, thrashing them with rain and winds of up to 180 mph, and leaving at least nine people dead.[1]

The hurricane battered several islands, including Barbuda, St. Martin and the British Virgin Islands. Its howling winds tore leaves from palm trees, ripped off roofs and windows from buildings, and slammed tall waves into hotels.ÿ

The eye of one of the strongest storms recorded in the Atlantic is making its way toward a possibly devastating hit on Florida over the weekend. The National Hurricane Center described Irma as "extremely dangerous."ÿ

President Donald Trump [1]pushed back against claims by top congressional Democrats that a deal has been reached over legislation to protect hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants and that a border-security package would not include a wall along the US-Mexico border.

"No deal was made last night on DACA," Trump tweeted. "Massive border security would have to be agreed to in exchange for consent. Would be subject to vote."

Late Wednesday, Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi said they had "agreed to enshrine the protections of (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program) into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that's acceptable to both sides."

But Trump also refuted that specific assertion by the Democratic leaders about a border wall, tweeting, "The WALL, which is already under construction in the form of new renovation of old and existing fences and walls, will continue to be built."

"My family and I began to notice changes about three years ago," Jackson wrote in a statement. "After a battery of tests, my physicians identified the issue as Parkinson's disease, a disease that bested my father."
