It's this sort of thing that keeps me from returning to the US.

Just curious, but did you expat? I wanted to for a long time, and made one stab at it in Germany, but for economic reasons as well as relying on the wrong people I was unable to pull it off...

Heh. I married an English girl. Easiest way. You have to find one that doesn't want to live in the US though... (:

Well after immigration had almost fully succeeded in breaking up my fiancee [living in Germany] and I, I had the marriage thing all set up. She was a Kenyan citizen living there on a visa, but it should've worked. In hindsight, I lucked out massively by ending up homeless back here in the states, though. I've got my son and I've got sanity left. ;) It was a very painful couple of years while I was trying to keep that family together, but after I learned the things that I did it would've been much worse if we would've stayed together.
Wish I knew an easier way around here to meet foreign women. :)

I married one with in-laws in the UK, we're considering the move. She apparently has Landed Immigrant status in Canada as well, so there's that.

Don't forget, you need to live in Canada for at least two years out of every five to keep that current.
