The plane disappeared from military radar for about 120 nautical miles after it deviated from its original course and crossed back over the Malaysian peninsula, sources say. Based on available data, this means the plane must have dipped in altitude to between 4,000 and 5,000 feet, a senior Malaysian government official and a source involved in the investigation tell CNN. <br Malaysia Air Force jets scrambled in the Straits of Malacca as a precautiona measure, soon after the plane was reported missing, Malaysian sources told CNN. The jets were scrambled before authorities corroborated the data that t plane turned back westward, a senior Malaysian government official told

Wow. Who'd've thunk that a country like Malaysia would have better national air security protocols than the USA did in 2001?

I agree, assuming that you are referring to the deployment of ready-5 equivalent aircraft. It seems like a less than stellar use of high-value assets.

I was really speaking more of the hijacked plane protocol that's been in use for how long now? Sorry, the whole 9/11 thing still rubs me the wrong way. Maybe I'm a little bit sensitive on the subject since I just relocated to the same city that I was in when I got to hear 'shop talk' from NORAD during the 9/11 stand-down.
