I use a swizzle-stick. But you gotta watch out. I mixed a Pentium-III with a 486 and I ended up with a Celeron on the rocks!

Sure, what platform are you running?

    Pro-Tools (Expensive) : Macintosh and WinNT/2000
    CoolEdit / CoolEdit Pro : Win9x and 2000/NT
    Vegas Audio : Win9x and 2000/NT
    ACID Music (loops/music) : Win9x and 2000/NT

There's many more out there, but these are some of the most popular/powerful.

Oh yeah, I've been toying around with Broadcast for Linux which does Audio and Video. Seems decent, but I think it has some time before it's as feature
rich as others. But, it is free :-)

There's also Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0 which I think is available on Win9x and 2000/NT. This one is a little limited in some areas for Audio Editing (ie. non-destructive editing and data recovery).

The last one I can think of is Studio Audio WorkShop (SAW), a lot of Radio Stations use this one for on the spot editing and mixing of audio for ads and other 'live' segments. I was amazed last time I went down to the radio station and watched the DJ whip some clips up in 2-4 minutes :)

Where can I find "Broadcast" ?

I sometimes have to clean up tracks I rip, before encoding. I have CoolEdit for Win9x, and it has more features than I could ever want, but I want a M$-free solution.

Essentially, when two tracks on an album "run together" (no pause between tracks) I call up the two tracks, zoom down to the individual samples, and cut the end of one and the beginning of the next so they are a perfect fit.

Would "Broadcast" allow me to do this without any drama?

You can find it here : http://heroinewarrior.com/bcast2000.html

Yes, I *think* you should be ale to do what you are describing. I've only got about 5-10 minutes playing with it so far.

Sound Forge is great for 2-Track Mixing and Mastering. It's very user-friendly and powerful at the same time. There's a TON of cool Directx plugins out there as well. I use Sound Forge and Sonic Solutions a lot at work when prepping CD's and tweaking that final mix before duplication.

I've used Cakewalk since v3.x, but mainly for MIDI stuff, and lately I've been using Cakewalk 9.0 for Automation Data when mixing at my friends studio. It has support for several of the new professional digital mixing consoles. It's nice for this alone, but I also print effects to it sometimes to free up
effect units. I've never actually mixed an entire band/project with it, but I think it could be done provided you have a fast computer and SCSI hard drives.

I am looking for an MP3 player that will play the MP3s in REVERSE... you know, so I can hear all the satanic references in the Chicago tunes... anyone know of one? I found one, but it was only for FreeBSD...

I think the newer versions of Sound Forge and CoolEdit will load MP3's. Then you can just flip them around for your listening pleasure :)

I dunno about MP3's, but CoolEdit will allow you to select a portionb (or all) of a .WAV file and reverse it. Then you can play the reversed section. That's how _I_ hear the satanic references.....
