Took the wife out to a big club in Philly, I was suprised to see the DJ's fr the local radio station were doing all the music from a pretty nice compute looked like an MP3 player

Shouldn't surprise you. That's what all the radio stations are doing. You slap a 40 Gig HD in your laptop and you can lug around 8-10,000 tracks and have your web-browser function as a nice point'n'click interfact for selecting pre-defined play-lists...

Yeah, that's what I do. I don't have quite that much yet, and I'm not professional, but I do small parties or whatever no-charge (just a hobby). I only use 8 Gig though, but that's plenty for me.
