Where are you ,
and how many mics are you using?
My drummer is using one at
multi-toms, 1 at the snares, and one at the double bass. Those in turn are picking up the hi-hats, and the rest of the brass. No matter how we adjust t inputs, he's either overpowering or can't be made out.. Just curious :)
You didn't say how many drums or cymbals your drummer uses, and that's very important when considering how many mics should be used (and where). If I on had 3 mics to use, I'd reduce my kit to 4 or 5 drums, at most.
Good luck!

The mics aren't the problem. We're just _OUT_ of inputs. He has an old 4 channel pevay, I'm using my new mesa bogie 4 channel guitar amp, and my bass player has a carvin bass amp. Add vocals and we're loaded.
He is playing a double bass kit (one bass per pedal). 1 Snare, 4 Toms, 1 rac of 5 multi toms,
and the sabian chinese gong. I'm counting 12 mics total
needed.. time to tell him to get a part time job :)

Well that's 12 drums if my math is correct, so you'd need at least 16 mics (depending on the number and placement of the cymbals) to do a "prefessional micing job.

A multi tom is similar to the toms used by drum and bugle corps. Its got a great sound to lend with the madness we've been creating. You probablly have another term for them? I'm sure you've seen them. With drums, I point at eac and say.. loud, louder, ayep.. this outta wake em up. Well, time to invest i 20 channel mix. Hope to have some photos soon :)

Well I still don't know you're referring to when you say "multi tom". Do you mean concert toms? How are they different from "normal" toms?

Well that's 12 drums if my math is correct, so you'd need at least (depending on the number and placement of the cymbals) to do a "pre micing job.

LOL, I'm not a drummer :) He calls them "Multi Toms". Its a steel bar approx in length, with five heads of different sizes (in descending order) arranged it.
Would a picture be helpful?
You'd often seen these used in a marching band..
Now you've got me doing
sherades inbetween space bar hits.
I'll find and post a url..
