Speaking of "home studios"' I have a simple question. What is the best way t transfer data from my Tascam Da-30 DAT deck to my computer. I want to burn s discs of stuff I have mixed down to DAT.

You need a digital I/O card (assuming you want to stay in the digital domain). Some newer sound cards come with Digital I/O connectors. I have a "Digital-only I/O card" from Digital Audio Labs (digitalaudio.com). I don't see it on their web-site anymore, so maybe they don't make/sell it any longer. I got mine from Guitar Center (a national retail musicial equipment store) for about $100.

Thanks, I'll have to look up the digital I/O cards. What type of connector do they use, the DAT has a RCA and a XLR digital out. Do you have specialized software to enact the transfer?

    Thanks again.

    RCA, digital.

No, the card will come with device drivers that make it look just like any other wave device (for play and record).

Thanks again, looks like this will be fairly easy to accomplish.

The "Soundblaster Live!" and "Soundblaster Live! Value..." both had SPDIf. (I think I got the acronym right, Sony-Philips-Digital-Interface.)

So that's what SPDIF stands for....a buddy of mine is giving me his SB Live card, as he is upgrading, so I'm going to try and see if I can work the transfers thru that SPDIF port. Hopefully I can get some more stuff to burn and add to my MP3.com area.

    Thanks

You can thank Leo LaPorte from "The Screen Savers" on TechTV for that little tidbit of info. (Is "tidbit" one word or two or is it hyphenated? :| )
