It seems this is coming across as a regular message and not an actual poll that I can vote on.. But my answer would be none of the above - There's a program for Windows I found quite a while ago called Mixcraft that I really like. I found it when looking for music recording software for Windows that's easy to use like GarageBand.

Mixcraft often offers deals on upgrades, too. Normally the price is around $100 or so to buy, but after this past Thanksgiving, they had a Cyber Monday deal for people with version 7 or 8 to upgrade to the new version 9 for $19, so I took advantage of that deal to upgrade (I had version 7.5). And when I upgraded to version 7, I got an upgrade deal then too since I had purchased version 6. So after purchasing version 6 initially, I've been upgrading to the newer versions fairly cheap.

Another vote for Guitarix. I need to pick up an instrument to usb A/D converter to lower the background noise I'm currently getting from jacking in to a Sound Blaster card on my linux box. I've also tried Guitarix on a 10
year old laptop with good latency levels, except for the cheap onboard sound card's mic input (the line level to usb box will fix that as well.)

I've only used GarageBand on a Mac. I haven't used it on an iPad.. Are there USB interfaces for the iPad that let you plug in a MIDI controller or an adapter for a line-in so you can plug in an instrument or mic to record into GarageBand for iPad?

Yep, I use Mixcraft off and on (I only play music casually). I found Mixcraft years ago when I was looking for a music recording program for Windows that had a similar look & feel to Garage Band for Mac. I think Mixcraft is pretty good. They also offer good pricing - I think it was $99 when I first bought it (version 7), and I've only had to pay upgrade pricing since then. This past November, I got Mixcraft 9 for (I think) $19 from them through a Cyber Monday upgrade pricing deal.
