What genres of music do you make in your studio?

What gear do you use?

Software or hardware DAW?

As for me,
I do electronic stuff, experimental, psy trance, tech, some hip hop/rap beats for friends, or what ever else I seem to come up with.

The gear I use, for this is
DAW Acid Pro and Wavlab
Korg ER1
EMU Orbit with the Launch pad
Peavy SP with the SXii
Roland Juno 2
DigiTech time machine
Alesis midi verb
Simple electric guitar.

Studio board is a Tascam DM24 (freaking hate that thing)

About it for my simple setup. I sold off all my other stuff years ago, and just got back into this using leftover stuff I had kept.

Lately, I'm just doing drumming videos for youtube.

I have a 15-year old Mackie 1604 VLZ, a Lexicon 50<mutter> digital effects processor, a BBE sonic maximizer, a Berhinger USB audio digital interface, lots
of nice mics (Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, etc.) and a bunch of outboard gear I haven't touched in years.

Software or hardware DAW?

Currently, software (video capture/editing software), so really not much multi-tracking lately.

I threw out my hardware DAW (Fostex 8-track) finally a year or so ago.

I can see the reason behind all the mics. ;)

I played with Vegas video a few times. The wife had to do a presentation for med school so we made a video. It turned out ok, but after that. I had a feeling video was not for me. I will stick to lasers and high speed galvos.

With the multi channel sound cards, or firewire/usb hardware and the software on the market now. It is hard to keep that older gear around. I still like the adats for easy recording at live events only because I don't want to haul my tower around.

My current setup is actually quite a bit smaller than my largest kit (cira '91): http://weedpuller.com/html/rob's_drums.html

But I don't need quite that many cymbals and drums any more. :-)

Well for me, I'm into synthesizers with a drum machine. I use Garageband and Logic Pro to do my recording and mixing. My idol is Korg. They make amazing Synthesizers. The new Kronos is a lovely new piece of hardware. I don't use
any mics at all since most of my music is line except for vocals. Sennheiser mics and headphones I find to be the best for my needs though. I remember the Lexicon Primetime Digital Delay. I also remember when I worked behind the Trident Series 65 Mixing Console with a Studer A80 and Ampex 456 and 465. The 465 was a better tape. Hi-Bias. $240 a reel back in the late 90's. Good old
DBX compressors and the patchbay and digital sampler and whatnot. We used XLR cables and Direct Injection Boxes for Guitars. We set up ambient mics too. Drums always took the longest because of the pieces involved. Once the mics were in place then it was sound checks. Digital reverberators and Echo
plates. God, those were the olden days. I miss them a lot.
