hey your bbs ad didnt work out so well. maybe use straight ascii

I was able to see his ad just fine. But in the lines you quoted, it doesn't look so good.

it's probably because i use slyedit. the author put a bunch of bugs into it.

At first I thought it was just me or my system, but I saw his ads in
multiple echos and they did not display well. All the other ANSI ads in
the echos in question displayed fine, which made me assume it isn't just me (and MRO).

I am looking at them all in an offline reader. Maybe I need to look at it while connected to the BBS to see it right.

I actually specifically went through my ANSI BBS Ad too, to make sure it stopped at character 79 instead of 80 so it wouldn't break and wrap. I've been seeing them perfectly, while I've seen others...... Turn out really bad, which is why I tested mine first, viewed it in a non-echoed message base, before I deployed it out. Which I'm doing completely by manually-run script, not automated, because, why automate something you want people to see? :D

Hmmm.. Well, I know in Synchronet, at least with DDMsgReader, they view fine. I believe they work well as well with the standard Synchronet reader also and from what I could tell they also viewed fine on Mystic BBSes.

It was touched up with that kinda newish Moebius ANSI editor in Linux, so it could have possibly something in effect to do with it, so definitely something I can look into more. But I have seen people come on over because of seeing the ads I put out. Really catches the eye apparently. :)

What offline message reader are you using? (and is it Windows based? Curious because I'd have to try it out with wine if it is).

Displaying ANSI in messages seems fairly tricky to do (for me, at least). My reader doesn't display all ANSI messages very well.. I had my reader convert basic ANSI sequences (color & attributes) to Synchronet attribute codes when displaying a message with ANSI, but it doesn't fully parse and handle all ANSI sequences (such as animation, etc.). If there's over a certain percentage of ANSI in a message, my reader will use the scrollbar.js to display the message instead of its own scrolling handler, since scrollbar.js seems to be able to parse ANSI a little better.

I probably would have had my message reader use scrollbar.js from the beginning if I knew it existed.

doing ansi ads over msg networks is tricky business and probably something you shouldnt do if you care about it displaying correctly.

i went on vert with syncterm and mt32 and confirmed his ad didnt show up correctly.

on your bbs it shows up correctly. i think it's because of your msg reader. after seeing the ad i'm not suprised it's not showing up correctly. it's pushing it with the number of characters, colors and width.

btw, would be nice if your reader had a jump function to go to a certain msg number.

and you have this error when i login as guest.

It does. When reading messages, you can start typing a message number and jump to that message. You can also do that in the message list.
